About Ariraman Mathivathanan:

It’s my pleasure to introduce myself, I am M. Ariraman, Department of Chemical Engineering, Anna university, Chennai, India, one of the supreme institute in the world of research.  I have completed my Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. M. Alagar in 2015. 

After the completion of Master’s degree, I got my first industry-based career opportunity (2010-2011) at “Industrial Spare Manufacturing & Trading corporation (ISMAT)” located in Chennai, India. Here, I have discharged my duties as a ‘lab in-charge’ which includes - testing the quality of raw materials, accessed the cured rubber materials, and the formulation of rubber compounding. During the 2nd year, I was selected as a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) student in the department of physical chemistry, University of Madras (2011-2012). This opportunity laid the foundation to my multi-disciplinary areas of research in chemistry. During my M. Phil study, I submitted a dissertation to the University that has covered the synthesis of ‘iron oxide coated polymer nano-composite’ compounds that can be used to study the ‘mechanism of DNA-cleavage in cancer cells’. 

Later, with my keen interest in ‘nanocomposites’, I take this as my doctoral study (2013-2015) topic and has focused on the development of ‘dielectric materials’ (high-k & low-k) in which I have synthesized the Cyanate ester and benzoxazine monomers that were composited with silica and zirconium oxides. My research findings were published in nine peer-reviewed research articles in reputed journals. During this time, I also got an opportunity to assist and train the graduate students for their dissertation work. 

After the completion of my doctoral studies, I continued my passion for research and joined as a ‘material development consultant” (2015-2016) in ‘Anabond R&D center, Chennai, India, in which I was one of the members of the team of scientists and our objective was to synthesize and separate the ‘Bisphenol-F’ and its chemical isomers. By keeping the significance of this protocol, it was also filed for an Indian patent. We are waiting to hear the approval from the IPR, India. 

All this experience has propelled me to further broaden my horizons in multi-disciplinary research areas. In 2016-2019, I am working as a post-doctoral fellow in the department of chemical engineering, National Chung Hsing University, Taichung City, Taiwan. Currently, at the time, I'm working on phosphorus-based flame-retardant active ester compounds that are used as epoxy curatives, synthesis of benzoxazine monomers from bio-renewable resources. Besides my post-doctoral work, my mentor has strong research collaboration with different industries, which extended my opportunity to be heavily involved in various research assignments. This has helped me to refine my multi-tasking abilities as well. My research contributions from the current position are being published in different peer-reviewed reputed journals. 

In 2019, I have joined as a researcher in Great Eastern Resins Industrial (GRECO). Here I am researching the synthesis of adhesives and primer for footwear industries based on customer requirement. Also, prepare grafted rubber adhesives for resin application. Use reverse engineering techniques to observe adhesives properties and use those case studies for preparing new formulations of adhesives with improved properties. Some changing cases have been studied to prepare a new kind of PU resin synthesis.

From the above, I assure that I take this philosophy wherever I go and consider any given opportunity as a mutual growth for my employer and myself.
