Dev Patra

Dev is passionate about applying Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), and nature-inspired algorithms to chemical engineering challenges. His focus is always on learning new skills and collaborating effectively.

He has completed 6 internships across research and chemical industries, including DOW Chemical, Thakurji Solvex Private Limited, DRDO, and Bombay Technologist & RPDS Pvt Limited gaining hands-on experience in research development and industrial applications.

So far, he has contributed to 2 international research publications, 1 book chapter (Elsevier), and presented his work at the International Conference on Machine Learning and Data Engineering (ICMLDE 2024, Dehradun). He is also the developer of NAMoSTe software, registered with the Copyright Office, Government of India, designed to advance polymer modelling and visualisation.

Outside academics, he is a State-level Table Tennis player and a chess enthusiast, activities that keep him engaged during his free time.

Dev is now seeking positions in the industry, either within his domain or in other areas. While he may have limited hands-on experience in chemical process operations as a fresher, since his focus has been on applying AI and ML in chemical engineering, and his core chemical engineering domain is still developing, he is highly motivated, eager to learn, and driven by curiosity. He consistently finds ways to contribute and grow through collaboration, self-learning, and tackling challenges. He is also open to non-core positions, as his primary motivation is to solve problems and create impact, regardless of the domain.

I have completed internships across R&D, data analytics, and process design, gaining exposure to both industrial and research environments. At Dow Chemical, I contributed to ongoing R&D initiatives. During my internship at RPDS, I worked on advanced process control, optimizing PID and MPC systems for industrial applications. At DRDO (DIAT), I developed AI/ML frameworks for environmental applications, building predictive models for heavy metal removal and co-authoring a conference paper. These experiences, combined with strong academic performance in Chemical Engineering, have equipped me with a mix of technical, analytical, and collaborative skills to take on challenging projects.

Pursuing an Integrated M.Tech (B.Tech + M.Tech) in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Materials & Polymers at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (Marathwada Campus). Consistently among the top of the batch with a current CGPA of 9.9/10. Coursework and projects combine strong fundamentals in chemical engineering with applications in process design, simulation, and data-driven modeling. Expected graduation: 2026.
