Dr Deepika Dhawan

My name is Dr. Deepika Dhawan, and I am delighted to be here today to tell you a bit about myself. I am an Assistant Professor in the Allied Health Sciences department at Chitkara School of Health Sciences, Chitkara University in Rajpura. With a strong academic background and a passion for research, I have dedicated my career to teaching, learning, and exploring the fields of food science, health, nutrition, and social issues.

I hold a Ph.D. in Food Science & Nutrition from Banasthali Vidyapith in Rajasthan, India. My research interests revolve around food science, metabolic syndrome, abdominal obesity, non-communicable diseases, nutritional assessment, community nutrition, clinical and hospital nutrition, and food analysis and product development.

Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor at Chitkara University, where I am involved in teaching and mentoring students in the field of Allied Health Sciences. I also have previous experience as an Assistant Professor and Junior Dietician in different institutions. Throughout my career, I have actively participated in various research projects, guided postgraduate students with their dissertation projects, and conducted health camps to provide nutrition education.

I have published several papers in refereed journals and presented posters and papers in national and international conferences. My publications cover a range of topics, including nutrition, metabolic syndrome, abdominal obesity, and the role of nutrition in the COVID-19 pandemic. I have also authored book chapters and edited a book related to Home Science as a vocational subject.

Apart from my academic achievements, I am a member of the Celiac Support Organization, India, and the Home Science Association of India. I have attended numerous workshops, seminars, conferences, and training programs related to food science, nutrition, education, and research.

In conclusion, I am an enthusiastic academic research professional with a strong commitment to teaching, learning, and making meaningful contributions to the fields of health sciences and nutrition. With my extensive knowledge and experience, I am eager to explore new opportunities and continue my journey of growth and discovery.

Dr. Deepika Dhawan is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Allied Health Sciences, Chitkara School of Health Sciences, Chitkara University, Rajpura. She has previously worked as an Assistant Professor at Amity University, Haryana in Department of Dietetics and Applied Nutrition. 

The major research areas of interest include metabolic syndrome and non-communicable diseases, food product development and analysis, and community and therapeutic nutrition. She has written 9 journal articles, 1 patent, an edited book, 3 book chapter and given 9 paper presentations in conferences and seminars. She has also received about 84 citations on google scholar from the published articles. 

She is a member of Member of Celiac Support Organization and Home Science Association of India. She actively participates in conferences, seminars along with this acts as a facilitator and organizer in events happening in the university. She was member of examination committee in previous organization duly conducting exams of 6 departments of Amity Medical School, Amity University Haryana. She has a firm conviction that unless science makes a reach out to the poor, the quality of life of lesser mortals; the underprivileged, malnourished masses, is hard to take a turn for the better. 

She has recently completed her Ph.D. in Food Science and Nutrition (Home Science), Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan in the year 2022. She has more than 4year experience in teaching and research. She was awarded with UGC-JRF in 2018 and is also UGC-NET qualified in-Home Science discipline in 2017. She did her post-graduation in Food Science and Nutrition from Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan in 2018 and graduation in Home Science (Hons) from Institute of Home Economics, University of Delhi in 2016.
