The Minamata Convention on Mercury

Mercury pollution is a global problem that requires international intervention. It moves by air and sea, crosses national borders, and has the ability to travel hundreds of kilometres in the atmosphere. As a result, home efforts alone will not suffice to reduce pollution; global societies must band together to confront the problem before it becomes uncontrollable.
Because mercury cycles among the atmosphere, the ocean, and the land, resulting in lengthy environmental shelf life and a global route. This is why the international community established a global response plan known with the name - The Minimata Convention on Mercury to address the problem of mercury throughout its full life cycle.
