Nikita Gupta

I am a copyeditor with six years of experience. I am looking for any exciting opportunity with an organisation that can help me grow. 

In my close to six years of working as a copy editor, there is much I have learnt about the role and the sheer importance of my skill in deciding the fate of a piece of writing – in giving shape, form and direction, or sometimes, just that final touch, to a writer’s toil and genius. I have edited a wide range of documents – from technical works and theses to business and job and college applications for some of the world’s leading organisations.

I have also had the pleasure of reading and refining an interesting array of writers’ documents from across the world, many works of creative writing – children’s books, self-help group manuals, poetry, among others. 

At PETA India, I edit all internal and external communication material – reports, news releases, letters, pamphlets, alerts, investigative reports, CVs, newsletters, and more. I have to ensure that the language is non-discriminatory and complies with PETA style guide, besides ensuring general grammatical and factual accuracy, flow, and clarity. Working with highly experienced editors who are native speakers, I have grasped a meticulous attention to detail and an approach to editing that aims for immaculate phrasing and precision. I have also gained insight into animal rights’ issues and campaigns. I contribute social media posts for the online team, too.

With SoulAce, I edit CSR reports from some of the country’s leading organisations. 

Further, with regard to my work experience, from my engagement with Pure Knowledge Solutions, first as an in-house editor and then as a work-from-home editor, I have gained the expertise needed to enhance the language, review the content, and revise the structure and format of writings from all spheres and with varying language proficiency, by native and non-native speakers. 

Thereafter, as a senior editor, I mastered the art of delivering excellent quality of copyediting by liaising with different teams – editorial, operations, sales – and ensuring that the work met client needs while also being fulfilling for the editors themselves, by addressing their queries and managing deadlines and work allocation. I also managed the quality data and reviews of three to four editors under me. 

In my freelance commitment with Pearson Education, I edited and proofread higher and primary education learning material, modules and textbooks, and also developed content for literature readers. This process showed me what goes into creating learning material for different age groups. 

Moreover, during my college days, I volunteered for the magazine Lucknow Observer and wrote pieces on current concerns as well as the city’s heritage after conducting extensive research, in-person interviews, with writers, historians, among others, and thorough field work when required. 

Equipped with the versatile knowledge and wide-ranging skills my experience so far has lent me, I am now eager to experience this new world of copyediting with an organisation committed to quality. I am looking for an opportunity that would allow me to grow and dedicate myself to work that I find fulfilling and engaging.
