Ranjana Mehrotra

I was the senior most women scientist among all the 39 laboratories of CSIR. I served as Chief Scientist and head of Quantum Phenomena & Applications Division and Physico Mechanical Metrology Division of CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi. As head of the above divisions, my responsibility was to establish and maintain National Standards (Classical and Quantum) and participate in the international/bilateral inter-comparisons and key-comparisons to make the National Standards compatible with international standards. The job also involved providing apex level calibration and consultancy services to the industry for adherence to Indian National Standards, and for enhancing their quality systems to remain competitive in the global market.

I initiated and successfully completed several multidisciplinary Industry and government-sponsored projects in the field of Vibrational Spectroscopy - development of non-invasive techniques for industry automation, in the field of textile technology, food sciences and medical sciences.

Served as the Chairperson of different important national scientific policy and administrative committees of CSIR and CSIR-NPL, Director General’s (CSIR) nominee and technical expert of appointment/ promotion of Scientists of different CSIR laboratories time to time. I worked as Chairperson Sexual Harassment Committee of CSIR HQ and many other CSIR Laboratories. At CSIR-NPL, I was deeply involved in defining and implementing scientific policies and new innovative projects of national interest. I am also working as Chairperson/principal member of different committees of Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi.

I worked as a Professor of Sharda University and AcSIR and was Course Coordinator of number of Courses, Supervised 10 Ph.D. and several MTech students on multi-disciplinary subjects. I published more than 130 research papers in reputed journals and presented more than 250 papers in national and international conferences. I also served as visiting scientist at University of Essen, Germany and PTB, Germany under INSA DFG exchange program.
