About Rehan Khan:

I am a recent Ph.D. graduate in Mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India. Throughout my academic journey, I have gained extensive experience in teaching and research, which have greatly contributed to my expertise and passion in the field.

In terms of research, my focus has been on exploring various aspects of desiccant cooling systems, heat and mass transfer, HVAC, building energy modeling, and the integration of AI and ML techniques. I am particularly interested in developing efficient and sustainable solutions for development of liquid desiccant systems. Through a multidisciplinary approach that combines experimental testing, numerical simulations, and advanced data-driven models, my aim is to expand the existing knowledge base and offer practical solutions that have a positive impact.

In addition to my research pursuits, I have actively engaged in teaching activities, playing a crucial role in guiding and shaping the education of undergraduate students. The combination of my teaching and research experiences has equipped me with a well-rounded skill set and a strong commitment to advancing knowledge, nurturing student development, and making a meaningful impact in academia. 

Experience

My passion lies in both teaching and research . At the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, I had the privilege of working as a research scholar. My responsibilities included designing and fabricating experimental setups to measure the wettability of solid surfaces and developing advanced liquid desiccant air-conditioning systems. I conducted experimental performance tests on liquid desiccant dehumidifiers and regenerators, developed numerical codes to evaluate coupled Nu and Sh numbers, and utilized data-driven approaches, including AI/ML models, for performance prediction. As a visiting researcher at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, I actively contributed to the Indo-Austrian project "Sustainable comfort through building optimization and solar cooling in India." During this time, I worked on optimizing building energy models using TRNSYS, focusing on developing sustainable solutions for thermal comfort.

In addition to my research endeavors, I have had the pleasure of teaching at various academic institutions. As a Teaching Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, I mentored undergraduate students, provided tutoring for the Applied Thermodynamic Laboratory course, and assisted in subjects such as thermodynamics and engineering graphics. Furthermore, I served as an Assistant Professor at both Theem College of Engineering and Alamuri Ratnamala Institute of Engineering, where I taught courses in heat transfer, refrigeration and air-conditioning, and fluid mechanics. I also supervised final-year undergraduate projects and coordinated projects for the graduating students.

My contributions to academia are reflected in my publications, which include journal articles and book chapters. I continuously strive to expand my knowledge through training programs and workshops, which have enabled me to enhance my skills in areas such as computational fluid dynamics and building energy modelling.

Education

I hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India. My doctoral research focused on performance modeling and assessment of a plastic tubular falling film tower for the development of a low-flow liquid desiccant system. Under the guidance of Professor Ritunesh Kumar, I conducted extensive studies in the areas of desiccant cooling systems. Prior to my Ph.D., I completed my M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, India. My master's dissertation explored the effect of slip for fluid flow and heat transfer in micro-channels, under the supervision of Professor Ashok Kumar Satapathy. This research provided valuable insights into micro-scale heat transfer phenomena. 

With my strong educational background and expertise in Mechanical Engineering, I am well-prepared to contribute to research and innovation in the field. My knowledge extends to areas such as desiccant cooling systems, heat and mass transfer, HVAC, building energy modeling, and the application of AI and ML techniques. I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to tackle complex challenges and make a significant impact in the field of Mechanical Engineering
