Smyrna Sherpa

 I was born and brought up in the beautiful Himalayan state of Sikkim, India. After my undergraduation I moved to New Delhi in November, 2020, I have been living in Delhi ever since. 

As a medical professional i wanted to work for a few years before i pursued postgraduation, in the last six months i have gained more insight in what I would like to study further and have been preparing to sit for exams and work at the same time. 

My other interests include making music, it has brought me through the best and the worst moments of my life and some day i would like to see my profession as a doctor and music come together in confluence. It is the mountain (like Neil Gaiman puts it) i want to keep walking to. 

I passed my MBBS from Sikkkim Medical Institute of Medical Sciences, Gangtok, Sikkim. After my undergraduation I moved to New Delhi in November, 2020 for my compulsory rotatory internship programme in Sir Gangaram Hospital, Delhi. I worked in Apollo Hospital, Sarita Vihar, New Delhi during the second wave of the pandemic, the whole experience trained me to work through stressful times. I also worked under Dr Neerav Goyal in the department of Liver Transplant and Surgical Gastroenterology in the same hospital. 

I moved onto work in Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi after Apollo where i worked in the department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery for six months and in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology for the next six months. A year in the capital’s biggest central referral Hospital taught me resilience and patience. 

During the time I was working in the hospitals I have mentioned above, I was also volunteering to work with an NGO named The New Generation Trust for their project Jesiah. For project Jesiah we went around the streets of Delhi, and under the flyovers of Ber Sarai, IIT, Vasant Vihar, etc, twice a week to provide basic medical facilities. 

We also held health camps and OPDs in our centre in Munirka for the people living in and out of Munirka Village. We would also frequent to slums around Delhi and provide basic health care to those who had very little access and awareness.
