About SN Singh:

I have intense desire to pursue research as well as teaching in the field of Development Economics particularly evidence-based policy, including use of randomized control trials and field experiments along with investigational law as it provides a comprehensive inter-disciplinary approach to the understanding of critical developmental issues in pathway of sustainable development. My interest and expertise lie in development economics, policy, and management including forests with International relations on business of Environment like MEAs. In addition to WTO issues related to trade negotiations on environmental goods and services and NAMA particular of Forests and domestic regulations on environmental services which is an articulate research area of interest in the topic of economics. My inter-disciplinary interest is determined and guided by my doctoral research, wherein the linkages between natural resource management, sustainable development and population were explored and analyzed. For the last more than 14 years, I have been associated with well-known National and International organizations (eg.University of Lucknow, CRIDA/Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR); Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, ICRISAT/CGIAR c/o World Bank and Mettu University, Ethiopia), working extensively on development and environmental policy issues. Being a scholarly researcher, I have strong background on analysis of parametric as well as non-parametric variables with the application of statistical analysis using software like SPSS and SAS.

I have also participated in the brainstorming discussion on crucial decision making on issues of sustainable environment and forestry, such as, policies on eco-taxes, climate change and trade, climate change and carbon sequestration through REDD; domestic regulations on environmental services in India, granting Margin of Preferences (MOP) to China and Korea; and definitional approach on environmental goods and services. Further, I have been involved in Modelling on tariff reduction/escalation strategy on forests products at four digit level of HS code which later was expanded to six digit and then to eight digit level etc. Moreover, I have sound statistical background and my vast research policy experience in the field of applied developmental economics and environment including forestry makes me suitable for this challenging profession of widespread field of Economics for the benefit of society and future generations. However, I am currently working in the capacity of Associate Professor of Economics in one Public University of Ethiopia and involve in teaching at Graduate as well as Post Graduate level students and imparting quality research. Additionally, my attached resume includes all of the other requirements given on your job listing. For this reason, I believe that I would be an assets and great addition to your organization.

My teaching philosophy is to promote independent thought and critical reasoning skills in my students by encouraging them to discuss and debate. For example, in my Institutional Economics course, each student is required to learn a topic and present it briefly to the other students once per lesson. This not only challenges the presenting student to convey the material accurately and concisely, but also aids the understanding of the other students in the class. Similarly, three times per semester I organise debate classes in which the class is split into groups which must defend a contested position in the field. Encouraging students to consider perspectives which are contentious and with which they may not agree challenges them to think beyond their current knowledge and to explore alternative perspectives. I assume that this teaching style has been successful in engaging students and holding their interest. I am happy to have received strong positive feedback from students on my teaching. I also have experience of supervising students in Bachelor's and Master’s in economics programs, from which I gained skills in project management and supporting students academically.

My current research is on the relationship between Africa, African and African Union examining the degree to which value assessments are influenced by both verbal and non-verbal primes. I have published 21 research publications on multidisciplinary topic, each published in high-impact journals. I am keen to continue this research at the University level given its expertise in decision making and its strong policy recommendation for the betterment of the community.

I enjoy supporting students from diverse backgrounds and those who have followed non-traditional career paths. I believe that the strength of a discipline comes from hearing a wide range of viewpoints. I am excited to pass the experience I have received on to other students who are supporting themselves through work while studying, who may have family commitments, or come from a non-traditional academic background. The possibility of teaching students and continuing my research at the University level something I am enthusiastic about.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
