PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

• Part of a multi disciplinary team which includes ENT practitioners, neurologists, neurosurgeons, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, maxillofacial surgeons, nutritionists, physiatrists, physiotherapist, and nurses.Currently, managing and supervising full fledged speech language pathology department dealing dysphagia, voice disorders, articulation &, fluency disorders, neuro speech & language disorders.
• Evaluated and managed swallowing and communication problems in patients with various neurologic conditions like cerebro vascular accidents, traumatic brain injuries, brain tumours, parkinsonism, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, progressive supra nuclear palsy, lateral medullary syndromes, meningitis, encephalitis etc. And head and neck surgeries like glossectomy, thyroidectomy, laryngectomy, maxillectomy, mandibulectomy, tracheostomy etc.
• While dealing with patients with dysphagia, main duties were:-
• Bedside screening of dysphagia.
• Autonomously performed comprehensive subjective evaluation of swallowing which includes detailed history taking, assessment of swallowing symptoms, oral peripheral mechanism examinations, assessment of non swallow functions, assessment of secretions, assessment of swallowing functions using various food consistencies, administration of various dysphagia test materials for rating the severity of dysphagia like MASA, SAFE, GUSS, PAS, DRQOL etc.
• Performed comprehensive objective evaluations of swallowing, mainly video fluoroscopic swallow study and fibreoptic endoscopic swallow study using various prepared controlled oral consistencies, for differentially diagnosing, assessing the nature and severity and for planning accurate intervention. Performed assessment and management in 1500+ dysphagia patients, 500+ VFSS, and 750+ FEES.
• Autonomously managing patients with dysphagia with appropriate maneuvers like supraglottic swallows, masako, shakers etc, postural adjustments, sensory behavioural therapy, motor behavioural therapy, muscle strengthening and diet modifications.
• Developed and established swallowing screening programme in neuro intensive care unit.
• Detailed reporting and making appropriate referrals if needed.
• Evaluated and managed 1000+ patients with voice disorders associated with vocal nodules, polyps, contact ulcers, pappilomas, granulomas, spasmodic dysphonia, muscle tension dysphonia, while dealing with voice disorders main duties were:
• Assisting laryngoscopies for differential diagnosis of various speech disorders.
• Conducted comprehensive subjective evaluation of voice which includes detailed history, breathing evaluation,, administration of various test materials like voice handicap index, CAPE-V, GRBAS, voice related quality of life, prosody voice screening profile etc.
• Conducted objective voice evaluation using software like PRAAT, MDVP, Dr speech etc.
• Pre-operative, peri-operative and post operative subjective and objective evaluation of voice including with intra operative nerve monitoring analysis and counselling of patients requiring micro laryngeal surgeries, thyroidectomy, laryngectomy, etc.
• Autonomously, management of voice disorders using various therapy techniques like confidential voice therapy, Lee Silverman voice therapy, accent method, resonance voice therapy, breathing exercises, neck exercises, semi occluded vocal tract exercises etc.
• Provided Voice coaching services as a part of professional voice care for singers, teachers, actors, theatre artists etc.
• Transgender voice care.
• Training of alaryngeal speech.
• Tracheotomy and voice prosthesis care and maintenance.
• Evaluated and managed patients with neuro speech and language disorders like Dysarthria, aphasia, and apraxia. Administration of test like western aphasia battery, Frenchay Dysarthria assessment, apraxia battery for adults, Boston naming test, Boston language screening test etc.
• Developed and established neuro surgical intensive care unit language screening
  Evaluated and managed patients with misarticulation associated with cleft lip and/or palate, phonological disorders using various articulation tests and exercises.
• Evaluated and managed patients with fluency disorders, childhood communication disorders.
• Supervised undergraduate students and post graduation students while performing clinical activities like preparation of brochures, organizing group therapy, assessment and management of speech, language and hearing disorders.
• Supervised and guided undergraduate students and post graduation students in research works related to the field of speech pathology, guided clinical clubs and journal clubs and present and submitted scientific papers in various national and international seminars and conferences.
