Vijay Kumar

I have recently submitted my thesis for evaluation for the award of a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Central University of Punjab. My research interests lie in the area of organic and medicinal chemistry, and I have published 16 papers in top international journals in this area. I qualified CSIR/UGC JRF exam in 2017.

My doctoral research, titled "Synthesis and evaluation of quinazoline derivatives as multipotent ligands for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease", focused on the incorporation of propargyl amine and tertiary amine pharmacophores into the 2-phenylquinazoline scaffold. The objective was to design novel hybrid molecules that can simultaneously inhibit acetylcholinesterase, monoamine oxidase, and amyloid beta aggregation, thereby maintaining optimal levels of various neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. Additionally, these compounds were expected to exhibit good blood-brain barrier permeability. To achieve my research objective, I employed a wide range of techniques, including organic synthesis, molecular modelling, structure-activity relationship analysis, and in vitro and in vivo biological assays. This comprehensive training has endowed me with the necessary skills to undertake complex drug discovery projects and has provided a solid foundation in medicinal chemistry principles. During my doctoral studies, I actively participated in the synthesis and characterization of a wide range of heterocyclic molecules, such as pyrimidines, quinazolines, chromones, coumarins, and pyrazoles. This research allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the principles governing their synthesis, as well as their diverse applications in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. My profound fascination for the intricacies of chemistry, coupled with my good foundation in molecular modelling, has led me to pursue organic and medicinal chemistry as the next step in my academic and professional journey
