Position: Product Development Engineer

Location: Saki Naka, Mumbai

Requirement: Full-time (Mon – Sat), 9.00 AM to 5.30PM

Start: Immediate

We are seeking a highly motivated Product Development Engineer with a mechanical engineering background, who will be responsible for the design and development of packaging machinery and automation systems. This role requires strong mechanical engineering expertise, creativity, and hands-on problem-solving skills to develop high-quality, innovative, and cost-effective products. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end product development, from conceptualization to production, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and performance standards. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, sales, and service, to ensure the successful execution of projects. 

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development:

• Develop innovative mechanical designs for packaging machinery, ensuring efficiency, durability, and compliance with safety standards.
• Design complex electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating mechanical, pneumatic, and adhesive dispensing systems.
• Prepare detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and technical documentation using SolidWorks.
• Conduct simulations and analysis to validate designs.

Prototyping & Testing:

• Lead the development and testing of product prototypes.
• Analyse and troubleshoot design issues, working closely with manufacturing teams.
• Optimize designs based on performance evaluation and feedback.

Research & Innovation:

• Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in packaging automation.
• Research and integrate innovative mechanical and pneumatic systems to improve product functionality and cost-effectiveness.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Work with cross-functional teams including sales, production, procurement, and service to ensure seamless product integration.
• Work closely with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide accurate product configurations.
• Coordinate with procurement teams to define material specifications and sourcing strategies.
• Support production teams in troubleshooting manufacturing challenges related to fabrication, machining, assembly, and testing.
• Assist with project management activities such as planning and scheduling tasks and activities, defining project scope and objectives, tracking and reporting project progress and results, and identifying and managing project risks.
• Communicate regularly with stakeholders on project status, issues, and risks, and manage expectations.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Maintain comprehensive design documentation, including BOMs, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to create and maintain product documentation such as user manuals, standard operating procedures, qualification documents, bill of materials, design considerations, parts purchase, job work orders, and any other relevant documentation.
• Manage documentation workflows and processes, including version control, approval processes, and distribution.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Ensure machinery is up to specifications and follows safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience:

• Prior experience in the design and development of machinery or automation systems.
• Hands-on participation in projects such as Baja, FSAE, Robocon, or similar competitions is a plus.
• Proven track record of taking products from concept to production.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling and 2D drafting, and assembly design.
• Experience designing complex electro-mechanical assemblies using engineering principles.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and pneumatic systems, their components, and integration.
• Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, and secondary treatments (heat treatments, surface finishes, etc.).
• Hands-on experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Ability to perform structural and tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of automation, control systems, and electromechanical integration.
• Familiarity with technical writing and documentation best practices.
• Understanding of project management processes and methodologies.
