    Description

    The opportunity

    When you join EY GCR Financial Service Operations (FSO) State & Local Taxes team, you will be at the heart of EYs critical mission to build a better working world by applying knowledge skills and experience in assisting clients in meeting their business purpose.

    Your key responsibilities

  • Performing detailed technical reviews of US corporate state and local tax returns and work papers with special attention to multistate tax issues
  • Coordinating with clients' internal tax teams
  • Performing a detailed review of estimated and extension payment tax calculations
  • Researching and analyzing state tax legislation and assisting with impact on state compliance and reporting
  • Assisting with tax consulting projects including tax planning, restructuring, and due diligence
  • Assisting with engagement workflow management and supervising tax consultants and interns on assigned engagements
  • E-file tax return and review XMLS and check for any E-file rejects
  • Train and guide Staff (new and experienced) on client related specific policies and general firm standards
  • Display general knowledge of engagement "big picture" and work towards obtaining appropriate certification
  • Take ownership of your schedule and proactively seek work when necessary to meet your annual chargeability goal
  • Mentorship and development of talent in a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Adhere to practice protocol and other internal processes consistently

    • Skills and attributes for success

  • Knowledge of Accounting standards and understanding of accounting principals
  • Proficient with GoSystem, OneSource and/or CorpTax and other tax compliance third party vendors like CCH, SharePoint etc
  • Ensuring adoption and specialization of EY methodologies, EY tools and technology specific to tax
  • Highly motivated to deliver results as per firm standards
  • Knowledge of recent tax laws and update
  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff and new joiners on different tax engagements
  • Proactively interact with client management team to gather information and engagement specific treatments and process
  • Work as team player with team and other members to achieve the deliverables in stipulated time with high quality
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement
  • Demonstrate high degree of accounting and statistical skills
  • Knowledge of technology – advanced knowledge of MS Excel, MS Office, and other Web-based applications
  • Detail oriented, establishing and maintaining quality standards
  • Great Team player and the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure

    • To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 2+ years' experience in state income and franchise tax
  • Experience in preparation and review of state and local corporate income and franchise tax returns
  • Graduate/Postgraduate degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • One of the following accreditations obtained, in process, or willing able to obtain:
  • Pursuing/Licensed – CPA/ Enrolled Agent (EA) – Will be an added advantage
  • Excellent presentation, research, writing and communications skills

    • Ideally, you'll also have

  • Awareness and understanding of US Corporate taxation
  • The ability to read, interpret and apply tax legislation using various tools and platforms
