Job description
The Data/BI Analyst will be responsible for exploring and understanding complex data models, maintaining existing data marts (DDPs), and creating new ones to support the marketing department's analytical needs. This role requires a strong technical foundation in data warehousing and transformation, as well as a keen business sense to translate data into strategic recommendations. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with a passion for data quality and efficiency.Key Responsibilities:
- Data Modeling and Transformation:
- Explore and understand existing data models to identify opportunities for improvement and new data products.
- Maintain and enhance existing Derived Data Products (datamarts) using dbt to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and timeliness.
- Design, develop, and implement new DDPs to support evolving marketing analytics requirements.
- Write and optimise complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) processes.
- Data Analysis:
- Collaborate with marketing stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements. o Perform ad-hoc analysis to answer specific business questions related to campaign performance, customer behavior, and marketing ROI.
- Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making within the marketing team.
- Data Governance and Quality:
- Utilise data cataloging tools like Alation (or similar) to document data assets, define data definitions, and promote data literacy across the marketing team.
- Implement data quality checks and monitoring processes within dbt / Alation to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the marketing data store.
- Establish and enforce best practices for data management and governance.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the marketing team and data engineering/IT teams.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Proactively identify and communicate data-related issues and their impact on business operations.
- Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Data Analyst, BI Analyst, or similar role.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, with experience in a data warehousing environment like Redshift.
- Hands-on experience with dbt (data build tool) for data transformation and modeling.
- Experience in creating and maintaining data marts or similar data delivery pipelines.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Experience working with marketing data (e.g., customer data, campaign performance, web analytics).
- Preferred Skills and Qualifications (Nice to Have):
- Experience with data visualisation and dashboarding tools, particularly Power BI.
- Familiarity with data cataloging and governance tools like Alation.
- Knowledge of marketing automation platforms, CRM systems, or advertising platforms (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Ads).
- Experience with other programming languages such as Python or R.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
