    Description

    Job Description for Vice Principal-GMRIT

    The Vice Principal shall oversee the day-to-day functioning of the College with all the due powers and responsibilities of running the College and its academic curriculum on the day to day basis.

    More specifically, the roles and responsibilities of the Vice Principal, which will be largely restricted to the internal administration of the Institution, have been delineated below:

    Academic Administration

    Ensure 100 % admissions in all streams.

    Develop academic calendar, plans and budget.

    Monitor classes as per the plans.

    Ensure timely notification of schedule and conduct of examinations and all the related incidental functions.

    Work closely with controller examination to ensure the quality of assessment, timely declaration of the results and implementation of examination regulations maintaining confidentiality.

    Ensure a ragging-free disciplined college – within and outside the campus.

    Conduct HOD and requisite faculty meetings at regular intervals, as necessary.

    Encourage co-curricular and extracurricular activities for the students, including a healthy and active functioning of Departmental Associations and various clubs of SAC.

    Attend to all incidental academic administration required for running the Institute, including essential MIS, both to the Management and regulatory authorities

    Ensure excellent relations with all stakeholders.

    Strive to reach the highest standards and ensure a place as the highest ranked Engineering College in the Southern States in the country in the next three years.

    Represent GMRIT in the Governing Council Meetings.

    Ensure the revision and formulation of academic & examination regulations from time to time and implement academic Autonomy in true spirit to bring out the best in the faculty and students.

    Plan and ensure the conduct of regular meetings of the various Autonomous governance bodies like the Board of Studies, Finance Committee and Academic Council as a member secretary complying with all the UGC norms.

    Faculty

    Ensure adequate faculty strength at all levels in all the departments, preferably with PhD qualifications of the best possible caliber.

    Ensure and encourage all faculty to acquire their PhD from competent institutions.

    Design appropriate incentives and career advancement schemes to retain good faculty.

    Ensure implementation of API for faculty assessment and development.

    Promote the use of technology in the classroom pedagogy and the institute's administrative processes.

    Promote an atmosphere of serious scholarship, exemplified through high-quality teaching and, research & publications.

    Ensure semester-wise feedback from students on various courses and faculty and take necessary actions (appropriate development of faculty, organize tutorials for weaker students, curriculum improvement etc., with a view to improving students' comprehension and performance in courses).

    Ensure that all teaching is strictly in English.

    Develop an active Visiting Faculty network from Institutions of Excellence (like IITs, NITs and such) to come and lecture our students on brief (say one-week) modules.

    Students

    Ensure the highest attendance in classes and take timely action to discourage errant cases.

    Encourage and ensure the student's participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to acquire the requisite credits.

    Work towards and ensure 85% pass in each course semester-wise.

    Ensure that all students with single and two backlogs clear their subjects in the immediate supply exams by conducting remedial classes.

    Keep failures and backlogs to a bare minimum and ensure 75% aggregate performance with a 6.0 CGPA as by the end of the sixth semester as per targets.

    Support the Principal in maximizing placements by providing soft skills and technical training per the Targets.

    Devise strategies to improve the quality of incoming students.

    Ensure continuous improvement in the technical, soft, and social skills of the students.

    Organize guest lectures by renowned scholars, entrepreneurs and technocrats at the campus.

    Encourage students to take up innovative projects and develop prototype models.

    Ensure that discipline is maintained in the hostels as per the policy.

    Reinforce higher values of discipline, conduct and societal concerns.

    Research

    Ensure a culture of active research-driven projects and publications.

    Develop a culture of attracting sponsored research projects.

    Ensure a high percentage of publications in high-quality journals – indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.

    Work closely with the principal in forging collaborative research with other institutions of excellence.

    Establish some select Centres of Excellence in designated disciplines.

    Academic Infrastructure

    1. Ensure all curriculum and contents are uploaded on the LAN.
    2. Implement web-based dynamic reports of student-related information.
    3. Ensure a paperless Institutional culture – implement automation.
    4. Ensure libraries and laboratories not only meet the University standards but try and go beyond them.
    5. Scout the environment for superior and technologically advanced pedagogical methods and skills to improve the effectiveness of teaching standards at GMRIT.
    6. Ensure safe upkeep and high utilization of college infrastructure.
    7. Provide appropriate inputs for updating the website.

    Regulatory issues

    1. Ensure regulatory compliance in all respects for the autonomous institute.
    2. Interact and maintain good relations with all external agencies, like JNTU, AICTE, NBA, UGC, State and Education Department, DST, and other Governmental organizations, as well as relevant non-governmental agencies, publications and accreditation bodies, with which the Institute has a close interface.
    3. Take responsibility for tapping research grants from funding agencies viz., DST, AICTE, UGC, DRDO, et al and introduce the Institute to as many such opportunities as possible.
    4. Ensure appropriate systems and processes for autonomy and movement towards attaining a university status as and when a decision to that effect is taken.
    5. Plan and take appropriate action to introduce new programs in line with the market demand.

    Career Development and Placement of the Students

    • Take primary responsibility for the employability and placements of the students, providing appropriate inputs to the Vice-Principal for improving the technical skills of the students.
    • Scan the environment closely to understand the hiring trends in the market.
    • Ensure high-quality website, brochure, social media, and relevant marketing material for presenting the college in the best possible light.
    • Develop an extensive network for creating opportunities for student internships, projects, placements, faculty recruitment, research and consultancy.
    • Ensure relevant Add-on courses and electives courses are offered in collaboration with the industry to enhance the placement opportunities.

    Institutional Development

    Strive to take the Institute among the best private engineering colleges in the country concerning the key parameters on which most good institutions are ranked high.

    Explore, facilitate and close tie-ups, partnerships and collaborations with other organizations and educational institutions in such areas as may be necessary for the healthy development of the Institution and full exploitation of its potential.

    Oversee Alumni related functions.

    Ensure the Technology initiatives and campus IT infrastructure are updated occasionally.

    Overall Administration:

    Coordinate the Annual Operating Plan and Strategic Plan in close cooperation with the individual Heads of the Departments.

    Be the interface of the Institutions during the various reviews and Board Meetings.

    Specification:

    1. Ph.D. Degree and First Class or equivalent at either Bachelor's or Master's level in relevant branches.
    2. Minimum 18 years of experience in teaching/ research/ industry, out of which at least 5 years shall be at the post equivalent to that of Professor.
    3. At least two successful Ph.D. guided as supervisor.
    4. Minimum 15 research Publications in SCI/Scopus.
    5. Minimum 5 years of experience handling administrative roles.
    6. Preferably from CSE/IT/ECE streams.
