What you will be doing

  • Manages legal matters in the specialization of labor and employment law in India.
  • Provides in-house legal counsel on labor and employment matters related to employees within India, which may include, but shall not be limited to, human resource issues, compensation and benefits matters, leave issues, wrongful dismissal issues, redundancy issues, settlement agreements and, employment agreements.
  • Manages both complex and routine employment-related disputes, including pre-litigation claims, employment litigation, arbitration and mediations and, where licensed, represents the company in civil court proceedings.
  • Coordinates with and supervises external counsel as needed on complex legal issues related to labor and employment law matters and civil proceedings in India.
  • Ensures all business practices, policies, standards and business activities comply with applicable labor and employment laws and regulations.
  • Provides practical advice and counsel to management concerning labor and employment laws in India.
  • Proactively monitors and advises management on developments and changes in labor and employment laws and regulations in India that affect the business.
  • Identifies and assesses legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area within India and advises accordingly.
  • Works closely with The People Office (Human Resources function) and Compliance to advise on and conduct internal investigations as necessary.
  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates various employment-related agreements and related legal documents.
  • Develops and improves employment law compliance processes, policies and guidelines to minimize legal exposure.
  • Oversees responses to inquiries from regulatory authorities.
  • Participates in both routine and complex legal projects relating to employment law matters.
  • Other related duties assigned as needed
  • What you bring:

  • 8+yrs of experience with strong skills and knowledge within the area of labor and employment law in India, either in private practice or in-house
  • Experience in the financial services sector is not required but considered a plus.
  • Excellent legal research skills
  • Requires a law degree from an approved law school in India that has been approved under the Bar Council of India.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting to audiences at various levels in the organization, e.g., executive, management, individual contributors.
  • Fluency in several Indian languages is not required but would be helpful.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently handle the general requirements of the role.
