    Application Engineer – Refrigeration Systems

    We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Application Engineer – HVAC/R Systems to support system design, resolve field issues, and collaborate across teams to ensure high-performance refrigeration solutions.

    This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of refrigeration systems who enjoys problem-solving, supporting engineering leaders, and being the technical bridge between design and real-world performance.

    You will work closely with our engineering managers, design team, and customer service group to help design robust systems, investigate and troubleshoot performance issues, and provide application-specific recommendations.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Assist in the design and optimization of refrigeration and HVAC systems, including component selection (compressors, heat exchangers, expansion valves, fans, pumps, etc.).
    • Support engineering managers in executing technical tasks and maintaining project timelines.
    • Diagnose field issues related to thermal performance, leaks, system inefficiencies, or component failure.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sourcing, testing, production, and quality to resolve technical problems.
    • Prepare and review technical documentation, system BOMs, and customer application specs.
    • Respond to customer technical inquiries, provide root cause analysis, and assist with troubleshooting.
    • Participate in the testing and validation of prototype systems and provide feedback on improvements.
    • Assist with data analysis and simulation as part of system performance reviews.
    • Maintain detailed records of customer feedback, issue resolution steps, and internal support tasks.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
    • 4+ years of hands-on experience with refrigeration or HVAC system design and support.
    • Solid understanding of the refrigeration cycle and system components.
    • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office tools.
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented with a problem-solving mindset and ability to work under guidance from engineering leads.
    • Familiarity with project tracking tools.
    Major KPIs
    • Design Accuracy: Maintain <5% design rework rate through BOM checks and QA reports.
    • Issue Resolution Speed: Resolve customer/field issues within 48 hours using case logs and follow-ups.
    • Root Cause Accountability: Achieve 100% RCA completion for major issues and 80% for minor ones.
    • Communication & Collaboration: Maintain 8/10+ rating on documentation quality and 90% on-time project completion.
    • Innovation & Test Involvement: Log 1–2 quarterly improvements and actively support 2–4 validation tests/month.
    What Success Looks Like in This Role

    Success in this position means becoming the go-to technical expert for refrigeration system support—bridging the gap between design, real-world performance, and customer satisfaction.

    Within the first 3–6 months, you will:

    • Quickly ramp up on CRAFT's refrigeration systems, components, and design standards.
    • Be able to independently support system design reviews, component validation, and field diagnostics with minimal supervision.
    • Build strong working relationships with engineering leads, production teams, and customer service to streamline issue resolution.
    • Take ownership of technical support tickets and consistently close them out with root cause and corrective actions documented.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance design accuracy, system reliability, or testing efficiency.
    • Maintain a high level of technical documentation quality, ensuring traceability and clarity across internal and external communications.
    • Demonstrate a proactive mindset, offering technical insight and support before issues escalate.

    Requirements and Attributes
    • Experience with System Engineering, Field Diagnostics, Test Labs, or commissioning of HVAC/R systems.
    • Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer principles, and cooling system troubleshooting.
    • Experience with various types of refrigerants such as HFCs, HFOs, Hydrocarbons and CO₂.
    • Exposure to industry standards (UL, ASHRAE, NSF, AHRI, DOE etc.) and compliance requirements for refrigeration systems.
    • Knowledge of sheet metal and plastics is highly desirable.
