A position has arisenfor an SAP / Sybase ASE DBA who has experience supportingmultiserver enterprise environments. This person will be a memberof the L3 global distributed database service team who providefollow the sun 24x7 firmwide containerlevel support for 10000s ofmission critical ASE databases across the production qa and testenvironments. Responsibilities:The role will require the successfulcandidate to participate in all aspects of database administrationincluding but not limited to Providing SAP Sybase ASE andReplication Server technical expertise and consultancy toapplication development and support teams Outage/incidentmanagement from initial troubleshoot/ resolution though to rootcause analysis and driving subsequent corrective measuresIn depthperformance and tuningHandling ticket / alert escalations from theDBA L1 and L2 groups to the L3 teamProject work includingmigrations version upgrades operational acceptance testing for newSAP ASE features / products being engineering by the DBAgroup.Scripting automation and developing self service toolsDefining /reviewing operational best practice and writing standardoperational procedure documentationParticipating in the weekendoncall support rota.Skills Required:Strong database administrationof SAP Sybase ASE versions up to and including ASE 16 ideally in aLinux environment.Expertise in Replication Server and administeringlarge scale complex replication topologies Performance andtuning:oAbility to use tools such as Sysmon and MDA tables toidentity instance level bottlenecks and provide correspondingconfiguration recommendations oAbility to read and understand queryplans understand optimizer decisions and provide recommendationsfor SQL / Index tuning. oStrong TSQL language knowledgeoAdvancedASE Optimizer troubleshootingIntermediate knowledge of Unix/LinuxIntermediate Python/ Perl / Shell or another scriptinglanguage and a proven ability to automate DBA tasksMust be able towork with command line toolsAbility to work in a highpressureenvironment on mission critical production databasessystemsExcellent communication skills (including strong written andspoken English)Ability to multitask / Excellent problemsolvingskills Service focused with ability to build relationships withcustomers of the DBA group Skills Desired:Prior experience of theHVR Change Data Capture replication product is a particularbonusExposure to Sybase MSA/ Data Assurance / WorkloadManagerKnowledge of another RDBMS product ideally IBM DB2 LUW orOracleBasic understanding of Veritas Cluster Server (VCS)Knowledgeof ITIL frameworksKnowledge ofServiceNow
