    Team Lead, Onboarding & Data Operations at ZeroNorth

    As the Team Lead for Onboarding & Data Operations at ZeroNorth, you will be a critical leader, acting as a player-coach for a team of Data Quality Analysts (Junior and Senior). You will both guide and empower your team while also directly managing the end-to-end lifecycle of a select portfolio of vessels and customers. Your responsibilities will span overseeing the entire onboarding process, ensuring the highest standards of data quality, driving compliance with intricate maritime regulations, including Classification Society requirements, and actively engaging with customers.

    This role requires a unique blend of deep operational expertise, strong hands-on data quality experience, effective team leadership, and a profound understanding of the shipping industry and SaaS maritime software. You will be instrumental in optimizing our data operations workflows, prioritizing and driving automation initiatives, and leading process improvements. You will foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within your team, directly contributing to ZeroNorth's mission of making global trade greener.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of junior and senior Data Quality Analysts, fostering a high-performance culture centered on data accuracy, customer satisfaction, and continuous learning.
    • Manage team capacity by allocating vessels and tasks effectively, setting clear objectives, conducting regular performance reviews, and supporting ongoing talent development and career growth.
    • Directly manage a portfolio of key vessels and customers in a player-coach role, overseeing onboarding, ongoing data quality management, and resolution of complex data-related challenges.
    • Engage proactively with customers to address complex data queries, guide corrective actions, and build strong, trust-based relationships through clear communication and problem resolution.
    • Oversee and continuously optimize the end-to-end vessel onboarding process, ensuring accurate configuration, seamless integration, and rapid time-to-value for customers.
    • Establish and enforce best practices for managing the complete vessel data lifecycle, from activation through offboarding.
    • Champion high data quality and governance standards across vessel reporting by leveraging advanced analytical techniques, internal tools, SQL, and Python.
    • Drive proactive identification and resolution of complex data discrepancies, ensuring the integrity and reliability of data underpinning company products.
    • Act as a subject matter expert in maritime regulations including IMO DCS, EU MRV, CII, and EEXI/EEDI, as well as Classification Society requirements such as DNV, Class NK, and LR.
    • Oversee and guide complex data verification processes with Classification Societies, ensuring accurate and timely compliance, supported by hands-on experience with platforms such as DNV Veracity.
    • Serve as a key liaison between Data Operations, Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales to align priorities and address systemic data challenges.
    • Represent team insights and operational needs to influence product roadmap decisions, particularly around automation in reporting platforms and data pipelines.
    • Lead initiatives to automate manual workflows within onboarding and data quality processes, improving efficiency, scalability, and operational effectiveness.
    • Drive the adoption of new tools and continuous improvement of existing processes to enhance team productivity.
    • Manage escalated customer issues as a senior point of contact for complex data quality discussions, providing clear guidance and timely resolution.
    • Deliver strategic insights and data quality performance metrics to internal stakeholders and customers to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

    Your profile:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, Data Engineering, a highly quantitative field, or a closely related discipline.
    • Four or more years of experience in the maritime industry, with a strong understanding of shipping operations and the maritime domain, gained through a seagoing background such as Marine Engineer or substantial shore-based experience.
    • Deep knowledge of maritime data reporting structures, vessel performance data, operational complexities, and the impact of emissions and compliance regulations on data.
    • Two or more years of hands-on experience in data quality management, data analysis, and data validation within complex datasets.
    • High proficiency in analytical tools including SQL, Python for data manipulation, advanced Excel, and data quality platforms.
    • Direct experience supporting data verification processes with Classification Societies such as Class NK, DNV, and LR, including hands-on use of verification portals such as DNV Veracity.
    • One or more years of experience leading, mentoring, and managing a team of data professionals, ideally with responsibility for five or more team members.
    • Strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to manage workloads, develop talent, and drive team performance.
    • Excellent customer interaction skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with senior management, customers, Classification Societies, and cross-functional internal teams.
    • Superior verbal and written English communication skills, enabling clear and confident engagement across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience working in a SaaS environment, particularly with maritime software solutions, reporting platforms, or bunker industry SaaS tools.
    • Ability to understand technical product constraints and effectively advocate for practical, scalable solutions.
    • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to identify systemic issues, design long-term solutions, and drive continuous improvement and automation.
