    JOB MISSIONThe Design Engineer works in the design studio. The Design Engineer meets with clients developing client standards and working out project specifics. Acting as an advocate for our clients, design engineers help guide security planning. Planning is not exclusive to security systems; it ties in environmental, architectural, and operational concerns as well. The design engineer works in cross functional teams that include project managers, application engineers, drafters, and owner's representatives. Design Engineers often meet with owners, architects, and contractors developing the security plan and system. The goal is a comprehensive security plan that is the basis for a project plan.

    RESPONSIBILITIESMeet with interested parties including project managers and owners' representatives to develop security plans in an iterative process.
    Create design packages that include plans, elevations, details, single line diagrams, and schedules. Often these are produced on the classic architectural way of programming, schematic design, design development, and construction drawings.
    Develop security solutions for our clients that include product selection and application. Also included are review of life safety exiting paths where they meet with security plans and door hardware schedules.
    Lead the development and the adoption of global standards within Northland and with our clients.
    Maintain and manage design timelines and schedules.
    Quality management of design content, presentation, and data retention.
    Work with Northland cross functional teams including project managers and application engineers.
    Work with client cross functional teams including real estate, security, architects, and contractors.

    QUALIFICATIONSExtensive experience in low voltage systems: physical security systems, life safety, network infrastructure, or related disciplines.
    Extensive design and coordination experience working with cross functional teams with owners, architects, and contractors.
    Experience in managing design engineering efforts, developing a design program, instituting collaboration process, and creating standards.
