About the Job

• Responsible for planning, overseeing, and reporting all daily operations, maintenance, and other activities of the Captive Power Plant (PP) unit. The individual must ensure smooth plant operations and must have a deep understanding of power plant operations and maintenance.

Roles and Responsibilities

Plant Operations

• Manage all the workstreams of the entire Power Plant covering all operations and maintenance activities to ensure optimal efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Ensure the generation and delivery of desired electrical energy to all production units as discussed with relevant department heads and as per power plant production schedule.
• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards
• Monitor plant performance and make recommendations for improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability
• Manage and lead a team of managers, engineers, technicians, and operators to ensure all activities are performed safely and effectively
• Lead the development and implementation of various operational and technical systems and processes to monitor, record, and control the consumption of raw material and other resources, as well as energy generation/ conversion.
• Monitor and validate the quality tests performed for power plant raw materials and accordingly plan for the consumption of the same.
• Ensure that the entire workforce of power plant unit is trained, equipped, and supervised appropriately to carry out their duties effectively
• Conduct daily visits across the plant to observe, validate, and rectify process deviances and abnormalities.

Plant Maintenance

• Liaise with various departments to develop periodic maintenance schedules for all work areas, machinery, and equipment within the Power Plant unit to ensure minimum breakdown events.
• Oversee the implementation of the periodic maintenance schedules for all the work areas, machinery, and equipment of the Power Plant unit and ensure all activities are performed as per departmental SOPs and procedures, and appropriately documented for reporting.
• Oversee development, implementation, and safe execution of all planned shutdown activities for the work areas, machinery, and equipment of the Power Plant unit.
• Ensure all maintenance workmen adhere to the company and departmental safety guidance and wear appropriate PPE.
• Work closely with the Operation Excellence team as well as the PM-CBM team to ensure that all the maintenance activities are being completed as per SOPs and on time to reduce downtime and breakdown events.

General Management

• Liaise with relevant departments to plan and manage budgets for the Power Plant operations and maintenance activities, as well as for optimal coordination of activities and effective communication across the organization
• Oversee the implementation of periodic skills and knowledge development training programs across the power plant team and provide relevant support as required
• Oversee the maintenance of accurate records of plant operations, quality tests, and maintenance activities.
• Validate the plant operations and maintenance data sets at daily review meetings and to establish adherence to production plan, identify deviances, assess root causes of the same, and develop action plans to eliminate/resolve the same.
• Prepare and present the plant operations and maintenance data sets at the regular CRM, MAT and SCM events and justify the deviances with appropriate support from subdepartment heads.
• Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring that all employees are trained in safety protocols and that all equipment is properly maintained.
• Perform any additional tasks as requested by top management.

Requirements and Skills

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelors in Mechanical, Electrical, or Production Engineering from a reputable institution.
• Master's degree in similar field preferred.
• Certifications in operational excellence methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TQM, etc.) desirable.

Desired Experience

• 10+ years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
• 05+ years of leadership role, preferably in power plant.

Functional Skills

• Deep understanding of power plant operations and maintenance, including knowledge of boilers, turbines, generators, and other related equipment.
• Proven track record of successful plant management and operational excellence.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Professional certification in power plant operations and maintenance.
