    Description

    Essential Functions:

    1. Check the consumables in the crash cart and the status of all equipments in the ICU and inform the Nursing Supervisor in case of any discrepancies noted

    This is best done at Nights.

    1. Check the message book for any instructions during the change of shifts
    2. Enquire, document and be aware of the new admissions, transfers, investigations, surgery and discharge of patients in the ICU
    3. Greet the patients and assess the patients condition and document the same at regular intervals
    4. Ensure that the diet provided for all the patients in the ICU is as per the diet chart
    5. Accompany and assist the consultants during their ICU visit and carry out their instructions
    6. Assist the consultants and resident doctors in the bedside procedures
    7. Ensure replacement of medicines from the patient, if not endorse to the nurse who is the next in charge
    8. Inform any special events during the shift to the Nursing Superintendent or Nursing Supervisor
    9. Make sure that the hygienic needs of patients are met and the unit is tidy at all times.

    1. Prepare the patients for surgeries and procedures and ensure that their consent is obtained. Collect and check all investigation reports of the ICU patients.
    2. ICU Nurse has to be alert and diligent in her observation of the patient under her care as any deterioration of the condition of the patient may need immediate intervention.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    1. Check, prepare all trolleys in the ICU and send any equipment for sterilization whenever needed.
    2. Patients case sheets need to be checked and arranged in an orderly manner
    3. Update the census daily
    4. Check the expiry dates of the medicines and send the medicines nearing expiry to the pharmacy for replacement
    5. Check the inventory of medicines, disposables, linen, etc and all the equipments in the department and any defects in electrical, oxygen pipeline, and sanitary fittings and report the same to the Nursing Supervisor on day duty for necessary remedial action.
