    Description

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Officer of the Watch (OOW) in navigation and bridge duties, including plotting courses, using navigational equipment (radar, ECDIS, GPS), and maintaining accurate bridge logs and records.
    • Actively participate in watchkeeping, maintaining a vigilant lookout for potential hazards and other vessels.
    • Learn and assist in container cargo operations, including loading, unloading, stowage planning, securing cargo, and monitoring stowage conditions.
    • Assist in mooring and unmooring operations, handling ropes, wires, and related equipment.
    • Participate in routine deck maintenance tasks such as chipping, painting, greasing, and general upkeep of deck areas and equipment.
    • Familiarize with and assist in the maintenance and testing of life-saving appliances (LSA) and firefighting appliances (FFA).
    • Actively participate in all safety drills (fire, abandon ship, man overboard, etc.) and emergency response procedures.
    • Conduct sounding of tanks (ballast, fresh water, fuel) and assist in stability calculations.
    • Learn and comply with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM Code) and company-specific procedures.
    • Maintain the Cadet's Training Record Book (TRB) diligently, documenting all learning and practical experiences.
    • Perform administrative duties as assigned, including assisting with paperwork, checklists, and reports.
    • Maintain effective communication with all crew members and officers.

    Qualifications:

    • Successful completion of a pre-sea training program such as Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nautical Science from a Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) approved maritime institute.
    • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates.
    • Valid medical fitness certificate for sea service from a DGS-approved doctor, with good eyesight (6/6 unaided) and no color blindness.
    • Proficiency in English (written and verbal communication).
