    Description

    WSP India is looking fror Consultant/Senior/Principal to support the delivery of environmental permit applications and associated studies and compliance activities for the regulated industry sector in the UK. Sitting in India you will work for UK permitting team. The permitting team works across a wide range of industrial sectors such as: energy (including nuclear, oil and gas, hydrogen), waste, food and drink, chemicals and manufacturing. Within these sectors we work on environmental (operating) permitting and compliance projects relating to:

    • The permitting of new industrial facilities
    • Variations, transfers and surrenders of existing permits
    • Permit applications for water discharge activities, flood risk activity permits and trade effluent consents

    The projects range from smaller localised sites and clients to nationally significant infrastructure projects.

    The role involves supporting clients in the aforementioned sectors with full permit applications, development of standalone studies and technical reports and follow-on support relating to compliance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions. Typical areas of support include:

    • Identifying and interpreting regulatory requirements (from EU Directives, UK legislation and Regulator guidance)
    • Leading regulator liaison and consultation with other stakeholders
    • Review of site sensitivities and environmental constraints
    • Application and review of BAT (Best Available Techniques) for different sectors
    • Environmental Management Systems development and compliance
    • Completing Environmental risk assessments (e.g. considering emissions to air, water and land)
    • Developing, reviewing or updating Accident Management Plans and Contingency Plans
    • Preparing Fire Prevention Plans, Odour Management Plans and Noise Management Plans
    • Drafting energy, raw materials and water use and waste management chapters – compilation of data , review of operational efficiencies / sector best practices and identification of opportunities for improvement
    • Quantitative screening assessments of point source emissions to air and water to determine modelling requirements
    • Developing Site Condition Reports (reviewing soil and groundwater monitoring data, sources-pathways-receptors, relevant hazardous substances and primary / secondary / tertiary containment measures)
    • Undertaking BAT options appraisals for abatement of emissions to air and water
    • Compiling, reviewing and summarising environmental monitoring reports and pollution inventories
    • Auditing clients' activities against their permit and other environmental regulatory requirements

    Skills/experience that would be desirable for this role include:

    • Postgraduate qualification, preferably in engineering or the sciences, or technical environmental sciences
    • Experience in navigating and interpreting environmental legislation
    • Reviewing data and maps to identify site sensitivities and environmental constraints
    • Industrial process knowledge and experience (in one or more of the sectors listed above), e.g. understanding technical process descriptions, process flow diagrams and suppliers' equipment specifications to interpret, extract and summarise relevant information
    • Qualitative and/or quantitative risk assessment (e.g. air, water, land, noise, odour, dust, climate change) including identification of sources-pathways-receptors and suggestion of suitable mitigation measures
    • Data collection, manipulation and presentation
    • Excellent communication skills and an ability to write clear and concise reports in English
