Working across 190 countries and territories, the organization strives daily to create a better world for all children, everywhere, without giving up in the face of obstacles.
For each child, education is crucial.
Progress has been notable due to robust collaborations with Bosnian and Herzegovinian authorities, such as the Communication Regulatory Agency of BIH and the Ministries of Communications and Civil Affairs of BIH. Noteworthy accomplishments include BIH becoming the first non-EU European country to join the global Giga initiative, which aims to connect every school to the Internet by 2030, a significant milestone.
Efforts have been bolstered by incorporating BIH school locations on Giga's global map, facilitating the identification of vulnerable areas lacking proper infrastructure. This data-driven approach allows for targeted resource allocation where it is most needed.
Substantial headway has been made in connecting isolated schools, exemplified by 76 satellite schools in Republika Srpska now having access to 4G Internet. This achievement was made possible through a partnership between a service provider and the local education authority, emphasizing the impact of public-private collaborations in bridging the digital gap to provide essential resources for quality education, even in the most remote regions.
Following the Call for Action agreed upon during the Western Balkans Digital Summit 2023, UNICEF in BIH and Giga are extending technical support to the BIH government to fulfill the agreed actions and ensure the provision of secure, affordable, top-notch internet access to all primary, secondary, central, and satellite schools in BIH.
How can you contribute to this cause?
This consultancy role, associated with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, plays a crucial part in integrating Giga in BIH, collaborating with various stakeholders, including government bodies, UNICEF, private sector partners, and educational institutions, to ensure seamless coordination and implementation of Giga activities as outlined in the work plan.
Key responsibilities of the consultant include:
Regular communication and information sharing
Real-time monitoring
Advisory body (AB) for Digital Transformation in Education
Advocacy and promotion activities
