Job description
A Production Manager in the dairy industry oversees the entire manufacturing process—from raw milk reception to finished product dispatch—ensuring quality, safety, efficiency, and compliance. 1. Oversee Dairy Processing Operations
- Manage daily production of milk, yogurt, butter, cheese, ghee, etc.
- Supervise pasteurization, homogenization, fermentation, and packaging processes
- Ensure production targets are met on time
Monitor plant performance and productivity
Quality Control & Food Safety
Ensure compliance with food safety standards like:
- Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)
- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO 22000)
- Monitor microbial and chemical testing of products
- Maintain hygiene and sanitation standards in plant
Handle audits and inspections
Team Management
Supervise production supervisors, machine operators, and workers
- Prepare shift schedules
- Train staff on hygiene, safety, and SOPs
Motivate team to improve productivity
Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination
Monitor raw milk procurement and storage
- Manage cold chain systems
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams
Reduce wastage and manage stock levels
Equipment & Maintenance
Ensure proper functioning of pasteurizers, separators, homogenizers, and chillers
- Plan preventive maintenance schedules
- Minimize machine downtime
Work with engineering team for upgrades
Cost & Performance Management
Control production costs
- Monitor yield and wastage
- Improve operational efficiency
Prepare production reports for management
Compliance & Documentation
Maintain batch records and production logs
- Ensure labeling compliance
- Follow environmental and safety regulations
- Implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
