Job Summary

A General Practitioner (GP) is a medical professional responsible for providing primary healthcare services to patients. The role involves responding to various medical and health problems presented by patients, including taking their history, making diagnoses, conducting investigations, administering treatments, and referring them to specialists when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality and impartiality in patient interactions
• Commission healthcare services by collaborating with medical professionals in the community and hospitals
• Promote health education in conjunction with other health professionals
• Organize preventative medical programs for individual patients
• Provide specialist clinics for specific conditions or groups, such as diabetes, smoking cessation, and new babies
• Meet targets set by the government for specific treatments
• Discuss the development of new pharmaceutical products with pharmaceutical sales representatives
• Manage resources to effectively handle targets
• Utilize IT skills to maintain patient records and stay up-to-date with medical developments
• Teach and assess trainee GPs, medical students, and observe medical schools or hospitals

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in medicine or a related field
• Registration with the relevant medical council
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic IT skills and ability to learn new software
