Job description
Dear Upworker,
I am seeking a writer and curriculum developer with a background in psychology, counseling, social work, or group facilitation to refine, reorganize, and expand an existing grief and loss group curriculum.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Approximately 50% of this eight-session curriculum has already been developed within our agency several years ago. The foundation is solid but needs restructuring, modernization, thematic cohesion, formatting alignment, and thoughtful expansion.

IMPORTANT:
The final pages of the document include a brief brainstorm outlining what I would like the revised curriculum to become.
Those pages must be carefully reviewed and incorporated into the redesign.
The goal is to preserve the strengths of the current material while making it clearer, more cohesive, practical, and accessible to individuals who have never participated in counseling before.
STRUCTURAL REQUIREMENTS
The curriculum must remain eight sessions total.
Each session must contain approximately three pages of meaningful, substantive content (no filler).
Each session must follow one cohesive theme rather than a scattered combination of topics.
Many of these themes already exist in the curriculum but may need rearranging for clarity and cohesion.
IMPORTANT:
Session Five ("Identity Grief") should serve as the formatting and structural template.
All sessions must match it in:
- Tone
- Structure
- Line spacing
- Font
- Color conventions
- Layout
LANGUAGE AND TONE REQUIREMENTS
Participants:
- Often lower income
- Typically have never participated in counseling
- Do not want fluff
- Do not respond well to overly clinical or counselorheavy language
Avoid phrases such as:
- "Where do you feel that in your body?"
- "This is a safe space."
- Excessive use of terms like trauma, abuse, gaslighting, etc.
Use direct, respectful, plain language instead:
- "We will not share your stories outside this group."
- "Someone took advantage of you."
- The tone must remain grounded, practical, and real.
SESSION CONTENT REQUIREMENTS
Each session must include two to three powerful, reflective quotes or excerpts that:
- Are not academic in tone
- Encourage introspection
- Help participants connect emotionally
- May include recognized thinkers such as Viktor Frankl, C.S. Lewis, the Bible, the Quran, Buddhist teachings, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, or other widely recognized figures
- Are properly attributed and appropriate for use
Homework that:
- Takes no more than 15 minutes
- Is meaningful and causes selfreflection
- Is not simply a review of session content
- Encourages deeper reflection on beliefs, identity, meaning, and personal values
- Avoids superficial yes/no questions unless they prompt genuine introspection
FORMATTING AND DESIGN
Formatting must match Session Five exactly.
- Clear and clean layout.
- No clutter.
- No fluff.
- One small, simple graphic per session maximum (optional, must not exceed onetenth of a page, must be public domain or freely usable).
DELIVERABLE
Step One:
- Fully revised and expanded eightsession curriculum
- Approximately three substantive pages per session
- Formatting identical to Session Five
- Delivered in fully editable Microsoft Word (.docx) format
- Submitted for review before payment
Step Two:
Incorporation of targeted revisions after my review
Revisions expected to be limited and straightforward

AI tools may be used for research purposes only.
AI must NOT be used to write, generate, draft, or restructure any part of this curriculum.
All writing, editing, restructuring, and formatting must be done by you personally.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Experience developing group therapy or psychoeducational curricula
- Strong editing and structural organization skills
- Ability to maintain accessible language without becoming simplistic
- Experience with grief, loss, or related populations
- Strong formatting and layout competency in Microsoft Word
