    Job DescriptionWSP India is looking fror a Consultant/Senior/Principal to support the delivery of environmental permit applications and associated studies and compliance activities for the regulated industry sector in the UK.

    Sitting in India you will work for UK permitting team.

    The permitting team works across a wide range of industrial sectors such as:
    energy (including nuclear, oil and gas, hydrogen), waste, food and drink, chemicals and manufacturing.

    Within these sectors we work on environmental (operating) permitting and compliance projects relating to:The permitting of new industrial facilitiesVariations, transfers and surrenders of existing permitsPermit applications for water discharge activities, flood risk activity permits and trade effluent consentsThe projects range from smaller localised sites and clients to nationally significant infrastructure projects.


    The role involves supporting clients in the aforementioned sectors with full permit applications, development of standalone studies and technical reports and follow-on support relating to compliance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions.


    Typical areas of support include :

    Identifying and interpreting regulatory requirements (from EU Directives, UK legislation and Regulator guidance)Leading regulator liaison and consultation with other stakeholdersReview of site sensitivities and environmental constraintsApplication and review of BAT (Best Available Techniques) for different sectorsEnvironmental Management Systems development and complianceCompleting Environmental risk assessments (e.g.

    considering emissions to air, water and land)Developing, reviewing or updating Accident Management Plans and Contingency PlansPreparing Fire Prevention Plans, Odour Management Plans and Noise Management PlansDrafting energy, raw materials and water use and waste management chapters – compilation of data , review of operational efficiencies / sector best practices and identification of opportunities for improvementQuantitative screening assessments of point source emissions to air and water to determine modelling requirementsDeveloping Site Condition Reports (reviewing soil and groundwater monitoring data, sources-pathways-receptors, relevant hazardous substances and primary / secondary / tertiary containment measures)Undertaking BAT options appraisals for abatement of emissions to air and waterCompiling, reviewing and summarising environmental monitoring reports and pollution inventoriesAuditing clients' activities against their permit and other environmental regulatory requirements


    Skills/experience that would be desirable for this role include:Postgraduate qualification, preferably in engineering or the sciences, or technical environmental sciencesExperience in navigating and interpreting environmental legislationReviewing data and maps to identify site sensitivities and environmental constraintsIndustrial process knowledge and experience (in one or more of the sectors listed above), e.g.

    understanding technical process descriptions, process flow diagrams and suppliers' equipment specifications to interpret, extract and summarise relevant informationQualitative and/or quantitative risk assessment (e.g. air, water, land, noise, odour, dust, climate change) including identification of sources-pathways-receptors and suggestion of suitable mitigation measuresData collection, manipulation and presentationExcellent communication skills and an ability to write clear and concise reports in English

    Mandatory SkillsIndustrial process knowledge and experience; Qualitative and/or quantitative risk assessment ; Excellent communication skills; Experience in navigating and interpreting environmental legislation
