About Engineering

Our Engineering center is located in Bangalore while our sales offices and partners are spread across the country and specific regions outside India. Our Engineering team consists of highly talented engineers who live a purpose and dream to develop the software that will accomplish our goal 'To be the technology fabric that drives the economic growth of the world'.

To build this network of businesses Tally likes to build its own technology stack to deliver the required products. Major components of the stack are highlighted below.

• Operating system: We use a trimmed-down version of the Linux
• Database system: An Object-oriented database written by Tally to support single view, replication, distributed and multi-tenancy.
• Web server & app server: We shall write our own hosting platform that can handle millions of connections per server.

What You Will Own

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Backend Lead to join our AI team. As a Backend Lead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the performance, scalability, and efficiency of our backend architecture while mentoring and leading a team of engineers. This position requires deep expertise in backend engineering, particularly in Python, and a strong understanding of building scalable and efficient systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leadership in backend development, and the ability to drive complex technical initiatives.

Experience You Should Bring

• 10+ years of experience in backend and AI/ML development, with strong proficiency in Python and GenAI processes.
• Expertise in building scalable, high-performance backend systems, REST/gRPC API design, distributed systems, and complex database management (SQL/NoSQL).
• Advanced understanding of machine learning workflows, Generative AI, and agentic systems. Proven ability to integrate ML models into production and partner with data scientists for model deployment and optimization.
• Strong experience in designing end‑to‑end systems, microservices, and event‑driven architectures.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, OCI, GCP, or Azure, along with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• 3+ years leading engineering teams, driving design, execution, code quality, and delivery excellence.
• Proven ability to coordinate across product, AI/ML, design, and business teams to deliver complex solutions.
• Experience with Agile practices, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and engineering best practices.

Soft Skills

• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and the ability to translate business goals into technical execution.
• Proactive, detail‑oriented, and capable of driving clarity and execution in ambiguous environments.

What You Will Be Doing

• Technical Leadership:
• Lead and mentor full‑stack engineers to deliver high‑quality solutions with AI components integrated seamlessly.
• Remain hands‑on (~20–30%) with architecture reviews, complex debugging, prototyping, and critical feature development.
• Define and uphold engineering standards, system design guidelines, and coding best practices.
• End‑to‑End Delivery:
• Own the full development lifecycle—from requirement analysis and architectural design to deployment and scaling.
• Work closely with cross functional teams (Product, AI, Client, Backend, DevOps, Design, QA) to ensure delivery of high impact solutions that meet business goals.
• AI Integration & Enablement:
• Own the full development lifecycle—from requirement analysis and architectural design to deployment and scaling.
• Work closely with cross functional teams (Product, AI, Client, Backend, DevOps, Design, QA) to ensure delivery of high impact solutions that meet business goals.
• Architecture & System Evolution:
• Own the full development lifecycle—from requirement analysis and architectural design to deployment and scaling.

• Team Growth & Collaboration:
