    Overview

    The StudyAbroad Counselor plays a crucial role in providing guidance andsupport to students who are considering or participating instudying abroad programs. This position is vital in assistingstudents in navigating the complexities of international studyopportunities including program selection application processesfinancial considerations and adapting to new culturalenvironments.

    KeyResponsibilities

    • Conducting oneononeadvising sessions with students to identify their academic andpersonal goals for studying abroad.
    • Assessingstudents suitability for various study abroad programs based ontheir academic performance and personalpreferences.
    • Assisting students in selectingappropriate study abroad programs that align with their academicand personal objectives.
    • Providing guidance onthe application processes including visa requirements financial aidand programspecific deadlines.
    • Offering supportin navigating cultural logistical and personal challengesassociated with studying abroad.
    • Coordinatingpredeparture orientation sessions to prepare students for theirstudy abroad experiences.
    • Collaborating withacademic advisors and faculty to ensure students receiveappropriate academic credit for their study abroadcourses.
    • Maintaining accurate and updatedrecords of student interactions program choices andoutcomes.
    • Participating in recruitment eventsto promote study abroad opportunities to prospectivestudents.
    • Engaging in continuous professionaldevelopment to stay informed about evolving study abroad programsand industry bestpractices.

    RequiredQualifications

    • Bachelors degree in arelated field such as international education counseling orcultural studies.
    • Demonstrated experience orunderstanding of studying or living abroad including knowledge ofinternational academic systems and culturaldifferences.
    • Strong crosscultural communicationskills with the ability to engage with students from diversebackgrounds and experiences.
    • Exemplaryorganizational skills and attention to detail especially inmanaging multiple student cases and program requirementssimultaneously.
    • Experience in advising orcounseling students in an educational setting preferably with afocus on international or experientialeducation.
    • Proven ability to handle and resolvecomplex student issues with sensitivity andconfidentiality.
    • Proficiency in usingtechnology and relevant software to track student informationprogram details and communicationoutreach.
    • Knowledge of best practices in riskmanagement health and safety protocols and emergency responseprocedures related to international studentprograms.
    • Understanding of ethical and legalconsiderations related to student advising and supportservices.
    • Willingness to occasionally workoutside standard office hours and travel domestically orinternationally for program promotion and studentsupport.
