    Job Description:


    Title: Adjunct Instructor, Science


    Unit: DCE Adjunct Faculty


    Department: Academic Affairs Division, Science Department


    Reports to: Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math


    Date: June 9, 2023


    General Summary: Middlesex Community College seeks to fill part-time adjunct science (Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) faculty positions for in-person lecture and laboratory courses beginning the fall 2023 semester. The College's adjunct science instructors are knowledgeable and creative professionals who have a demonstrated commitment to working with the College's diverse students and community. The College is committed to hiring creative and knowledgeable individuals that have expertise in this area.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide instruction for a group of up to 24 students in a classroom;
    • Ability to instruct in at least one of the following courses: Introduction to Chemistry, College Chemistry I & II, General Biology I, Microbiology, Physics I & II (non-science majors)
    • Develop and use student-centered pedagogies
    • Develop and use assessment strategies that maximize the developmental learning process and measure student learning outcomes
    • Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities
    • Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom
    • Use Blackboard Learning Management System to post syllabi, assignments, and grades
    • Participate in the end-of-the-term grading session of a common final assessment
    • Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association


    Requirements:

    • Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or a closely related field
    • Classroom teaching of high school or college science courses
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, continuous professional improvement, developmental education, inclusive pedagogies, and use of technology to support student learning
    • Willingness to work collegially with a diverse body of faculty and staff
    • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
    • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Doctorate degree preferred
    • Bilingual skills a plus
    • Working knowledge of MS Word, Blackboard LMS, and PC


    Additional Information:


    Salary Range: DCE Adjunct Faculty are paid in accordance with the DCE Step Levels provided in the Collective Bargaining Agreement


    Location: Lowell or Bedford campus as needed


    Hours: Adjunct faculty can teach up to three courses per semester


    Expected Start Date: September 2023
