    Job Title: Senior Database Developer – DB2 to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL Migration

    Experience Level: 7+ Years

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Senior Database Developer with strong expertise in IBM DB2 databases and hands-on experience migrating on-premises database environments to AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL.

    This role will play a critical part in modernizing database infrastructure, leading large-scale DB2 to PostgreSQL migrations, and ensuring data integrity, performance, scalability, and security throughout the migration lifecycle. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cloud architects, application developers, and DevOps teams to deliver efficient and reliable database solutions on AWS.

    Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Migration & Modernization
    • Lead end-to-end migration of on-premises IBM DB2 databases to AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL.
    • Define and implement migration strategies, including schema conversion, data transformation, and validation processes.
    • Design and optimize database schemas and structures to align with PostgreSQL standards and AWS best practices.
    • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline data conversion and migration workflows.
    Architecture & Performance Optimization
    • Assess existing DB2 database architecture and recommend improvements for cloud-based environments.
    • Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and tuning strategies.
    • Monitor and fine-tune database performance during and after migration.
    Collaboration & Integration
    • Work closely with cloud architects, developers, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration between applications and databases.
    • Support application teams in adapting database queries and data models for PostgreSQL compatibility.
    • Troubleshoot complex migration issues, performance bottlenecks, and data inconsistencies.
    Governance & Documentation
    • Ensure adherence to data security, compliance, and governance standards throughout the migration lifecycle.
    • Prepare and maintain migration documentation, including:
    • Migration strategies and plans
    • Data mappings and schema conversion details
    • Rollback and contingency strategies
    Mentorship & Technical Leadership
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database engineers.
    • Promote database best practices, coding standards, and performance optimization techniques within the team.
    Required Skills & ExperienceDatabase Expertise
    • 7+ years of experience in database development and management.
    • Strong hands-on expertise with IBM DB2 database architecture and administration.
    • Proven experience migrating DB2 databases to AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL.
    PostgreSQL Development
    • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL development, including:
    • Stored procedures and functions
    • Indexing strategies
    • Query optimization and performance tuning
    AWS & Migration Tools
    • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as:
    • AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)
    • AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT)
    • Amazon RDS
    • Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL
    Data Engineering & Automation
    • Strong understanding of data modeling, normalization, and database optimization techniques.
    • Experience with ETL processes and data transformation pipelines.
    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or similar for automation.
    Additional Skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to manage complex migration projects.
    Education
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • AWS Certifications, such as:
    • AWS Certified Database – Specialty
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code, including:
    • Terraform
    • AWS CloudFormation
    • Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, such as Git, Jenkins, and Ansible.
    Key Competencies
    • Strong expertise in database modernization and cloud migration.
    • Ability to lead complex database transformation initiatives.
    • Experience working in cross-functional cloud and DevOps environments.
    • Commitment to building scalable, secure, and high-performing database platforms.
