Job description
Purpose/Objective
The Section Head - Packing Plant (Electrical & Instrumentation) is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of all electrical and instrumentation systems in the packing plant.
This includes leading troubleshooting efforts, managing system upgrades, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities of Role
Packing Plant Operations Management: Oversee the maintenance and optimization of all electrical and instrumentation systems within the packing plant to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Ensure smooth functioning of packaging lines, bagging machines, and associated electrical and automation systems.
Develop and implement strategies to improve the reliability and efficiency of packing plant electrical and instrumentation systems.
Troubleshooting and Fault Diagnosis: Lead the diagnosis and resolution of electrical and instrumentation faults in the packing plant, using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
Address recurring issues by conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures to enhance system reliability.
System Upgrades and Automation: Manage the implementation of upgrades and modifications to electrical and instrumentation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and field instruments.
Ensure compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and best practices during system modifications or enhancements.
Support integration of Industry 4.
0 technologies and IoT-based solutions for monitoring and optimization.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and electrical/instrumentation standards during maintenance activities.
Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and company policies.
Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures for instrumentation and control systems.
Spare Parts and Inventory Management: Oversee the management of spare parts for electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring critical components are available.
Coordinate with procurement to source high-quality parts and maintain optimized inventory levels.
Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and train the electrical and instrumentation maintenance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Identify skill gaps and provide training opportunities to enhance the technical expertise of the team.
Coordination with Other Departments: Collaborate with production and mechanical maintenance teams to align electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities with packing plant schedules.
Ensure timely technical support during planned shutdowns or emergency repairs.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, including diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, and calibration.
Prepare and present regular reports to the E&I Maintenance Head, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs), compliance, and areas for improvement.
Instrumentation Calibration and Maintenance: Ensure regular calibration, testing, and maintenance of sensors, weighing systems, and control instruments to maintain precision in packing operations.
Monitor the accuracy of weighing systems and other critical instruments to meet quality standards.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize energy consumption and reduce maintenance costs for electrical and instrumentation systems.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, implementing solutions to enhance the performance of packing plant equipment.

Qualifications and Experience
Education Qualification: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or Automation Engineering.
Work Experience: 8–10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance, including 3–5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of power distribution, motor controls, and protection devices used in packaging operations.
