Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in
Chennai
for an
Embedded Android Engineer
. The role focuses on developing and deploying Android-based software for industrial automation hardware used in cold storage monitoring and control systems. The selected candidate will design, develop, and integrate Android applications on embedded computing platforms such as single-board computers and industrial mini-PCs. The role involves close interaction with hardware interfaces, industrial communication protocols, field devices, and cloud connectivity. The engineer is expected to work independently on time-bound development tasks while coordinating with internal engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Embedded Android Development
- Design and develop Android applications for industrial automation and monitoring systems.
- Deploy and optimize Android on embedded hardware platforms (SBCs / industrial mini-PCs).
- Customize device configuration, storage usage, and system performance for industrial environments.
Hardware & Protocol Integration
- Interface Android systems with embedded hardware and peripherals.
- Implement communication using
UART, RS485, RS232, and I2C
interfaces. - Integrate sensors, controllers, and field devices with Android-based systems.
Connectivity & Data Communication
- Develop and manage communication via
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MQTT, and HTTPS
. - Implement secure device-to-cloud and device-to-device data exchange.
- Handle in-built storage, external storage and
memory card (SD) data management
.
Backed & API Integration
- Design and implement
REST APIs
and device-side services. - Integrate third-party APIs and cloud platforms.
- Develop reusable libraries and scalable software components for multiple devices/projects.
UI & System Architecture
- Develop intuitive industrial user interfaces for device control and monitoring.
- Implement inter-module communication within Android systems.
- Ensure scalable, maintainable, and robust software architecture.
Deployment & Field Readiness
- Flash and configure Android OS on embedded devices.
- Support hardware bring-up and system validation.
- Optimize applications for reliability in industrial field conditions
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in
Electronics / Embedded Systems / Computer Science / Instrumentation / Electrical / IT
or related field. - 2+ years of experience
in Android development for embedded or hardware-integrated systems. - Experience deploying Android on
single-board computers or embedded devices
.
Embedded & Industrial Skills
- Strong knowledge of
embedded hardware interfaces
: UART, RS485, RS232, I2C. - Experience working with
industrial devices, sensors, or automation systems
. - Understanding of embedded Linux / Android system architecture is preferred.
Connectivity & Software Skills
- Experience with
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MQTT, and HTTPS communication
. - Database handling on embedded/Android systems.
- External storage and memory management (SD card, device storage).
- REST API development and third-party API integration.
- Creation of reusable libraries and modular software components.
Additional Preferred Knowledge
- Industrial process or field device knowledge (automation, instrumentation, cold storage, etc.).
- Device provisioning, flashing, or firmware deployment workflows.
