    Description

    Position: Counsellor for a Social and Emotional Wellness Programme for Adolescents in Schools.

    Job Location: Bangalore

    Job Summary:

    The Counsellor will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Programme in schools, with a focus on adolescents and their ecosystem. The role involves collaborating with school staff, organizing workshops for parents and handholding teachers, and monitoring the overall progress of the SEL Programme to enhance the emotional and social well-being of students.

    Job Type: Full-time (Contractual)

    Start and End date: May 2024 – February 2025

    Training will be provided by our experts on program processes.

    Reports to: Program Lead, Ashraya Hastha Trust

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Ø Work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with school staff, parents, and community stakeholders involved in the student's development.

    Ø Facilitate sessions that focus on emotional intelligence, communication skills, conflict resolution, and other relevant SEL components.

    Ø Provides guidance and counselling to students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.

    Ø Remains universally accessible and sensitive to the needs of the students under their care.

    Consults, facilitates and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student progress and concerns whenever required.

    Ø Responsible for conducting theme-based activities and ensuring maximum participation of students in coordination with the school authorities.

    Ø Identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services and coordinates with the concerned specialists.

    Ø Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with mental health specialists on implementing student curriculum.

    Ø Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.

    Ø Organize, interpret and administer necessary social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health assessments, activities and testing for students with the guidance of the expert team as per the curriculum.

    Ø Establish mechanisms for ongoing program evaluation to assess the impact of SEL initiatives. Collect and analyze data related to student outcomes, behaviour, and overall well-being.

    Ø Collaborate with teachers to integrate SEL principles into the regular academic curriculum. Organize and lead parent workshops to promote the importance of SEL at home.

    Ø Stay informed about current research and best practices in SEL to continually improve the programme and regularly communicate with school administrators, teachers, and parents to provide updates on the SEL Programme.

    Ø Maintain appropriate documentation and submit reports as required.

    Qualifications/Skills:

    Ø Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing the program goals.

    Ø Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.

    Ø Empathetic and compassionate individual who embodies the unwavering belief that every child deserves and can have expert instruction.

    Ø Adhere to legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

    Ø Respect for diverse stakeholders in the home, school, and community.

    Ø Human relations skills, including ability to lead, work harmoniously with a team, communicate effectively and demonstrate integrity of confidential information.

    Ø Ability to identify and guide at-risk students.

    Ø Public speaking skills in the local language.

    Ø Ability to handle crisis, manage things and deliver effective results within the timeline, sometimes in difficult and unknown circumstances.

    Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Education / Experience:

    Ø Master's degree in social work/psychology

    Ø Minimum of 1year of experience working with children in schools and community-based work

    Ø Kannada and English language proficiency is a must with basic knowledge of Hindi.

    Ø Understanding and familiarity with computer applications.
