    Description

    Role Purpose:

    The Associate Manager – Database Management is responsible for designing and developing robust and sustainable database solutions for Retail, identifying, and understanding the business requirements; creating and maintaining database projects and programs; troubleshooting errors; fixing bugs, and performing upgrades.

    The role holder is also responsible for providing technical support to employees, addressing, and resolving issues promptly and efficiently. He/she will also be responsible for ensuring high availability, database hardening, maintaining warehouse solution (On-Prem and Cloud), privacy and governance.

    Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    Database Management

    Design data solution on Azure/On-Prem and sometime in collaboration with business/technical partners.

    Managing Database solution on Azure/on-prem for SQL Server, Azure SQL Server (Managed/unmanaged), MySQL and PostgreSQL

    Manage Datawarehouse solution on Azure like Databricks, Data Lake and Azure Synapse and more

    Develop and test disaster recovery scenario.

    Implement failover and replication solutions for high availability.

    Collaborate with developers, system administrators, Network, and other teams to ensure seamless data integration.

    Plan and execute data migrations or upgrades by aligning with Business and application owner.

    Work closely with data analysts, and data scientists working on Cloud /On-prem.

    Monitor database performance and optimize as needed.

    Create and maintain databases, tables, and schemas.

    Design end-to-end database complex solution based on business requirements.

    Manage, troubleshoot, and deploy database solutions (Azure SQL, MI, Elastic pool, and SQL IAAS platform)

    Cost Optimization.

    Patch database server as and when required.

    Automate deployment of database IAAS and storage and management using tools such as Terraform.

    Serve as Database Architect to engineer cloud data platform for adoption at enterprise level, working closely with Security and Compliance organization to define controls.

    Collaborate with the broader enterprise architecture community to provide input into data strategies and standards.

    Optimize database platform infrastructure for high availability and scalability.

    Coordination and Communication

    • with Retail Corporate and Country teams and provide them with regular updates through having an agreed communication plan that is conducive for the full duration of the project(s) to deliver on the business objectives.
    • relationships and maintain strong partnerships with key personnel to help achieve organisational goals.
    • with key stakeholders to ensure clarity of the specifications and expectations of the IT function.

    Audit and Reporting

    Contribute to the preparation of business presentations and reports related to IT function for various stakeholders, on periodic and ad hoc basis as and when required.

    Support on performing regular audit of various processes and databases for the IT function in order to identify gaps and risks and propose corrective actions.

    Policies and Procedures

    • to the review and update of the IT function policies and procedures related and ensure it is implemented and reported on
    • to the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures.

    Human Capital Responsibilities

    • with the implementation of the performance management process by setting objectives, monitoring performance, and provide constructive feedback and provide inputs to senior management.
    • mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles.
    • inputs on training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements.
    • and implement on the job-training for the team.
    • inputs for the development of annual manpower plan.
    • the implementation of Retail's corporate policies and relevant procedures.

    Qualification, Experience & Skills:

    Minimum Qualifications/education

    • degree in information technology and/or STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields
    • degree in the same field is preferred.

    Minimum experience

    • years of experience with a combination of development and design in areas of database
    • 5+ years in the retail/e-Commerce business or closely related industry
    • 6+ years of experience in leading data migration to the cloud and cloud native architectures in Azure
    • experience re-architecting and migrating database from On-Prem to cloud and vice versa

    Skills

    • in delivering high scale, critically important products running across public clouds (Azure, GCP) and private data center for Azure SQL(Managed/Unmanaged), SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL as well as for Azure Synapse, Azure fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, data factory.
    • through tools such as Elasticsearch, SolarWinds, Datadog, Dynatrace
    • in building DataOps solution
    • on experience in architecting DB governance and privacy frameworks as well as DB automation frameworks including standardization of DB onboarding and support.
    • in building large scale, highly available, cloud native, multi-tenant, infrastructure platforms on public cloud, preferably in a consumer business.
    • development experience with one or more of the following languages: Python, PowerShell is a plus.
    • knowledge of e-Commerce ecosystem from both a business and a technical standpoint
    • verbal and written communication skills; expertise in converting technical messages into clear messages that outline why change is needed that appeals to key business personas.
    • to lead discussions about complex solution design trade-offs and drive conflict resolution.
    • ability to articulate the big picture with or without details and work in ambiguous situations.

    • English language skills (Speaking, Reading, and Writing) with exceptional business writing, Arabic is a plus
