Position Details :
Designation -Manager CAPEX Investment (Steel Projects)
Role Overview
The Manager CAPEX is responsible for financial evaluation, capital governance, and cost control of steel plant projects, ensuring disciplined investment decisions and effective execution oversight.
The role supports feasibility studies, investment appraisals, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management for greenfield, brownfield, and sustaining CAPEX projects within integrated steelmaking operations. The incumbent will work closely with engineering, project execution, procurement, and finance teams to ensure capital is deployed efficiently and aligned with strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Feasibility Study & Project Evaluation
Lead financial evaluation of projects during:
Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) review preliminary scope, layouts, technical configurations, and capital cost estimates.
Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) validate detailed engineering, vendor quotations, project schedules, and funding requirements.
Review and challenge:
Develop financial models incorporating CAPEX, OPEX, revenue projections, and lifecycle cost considerations.
Conduct sensitivity and scenario analysis to assess project viability under varying market and operational conditions.
2. Capital Governance & Investment Evaluation
Ensure compliance with internal capital governance frameworks and approval processes.
Validate cost benchmarking, contingency provisioning, and risk allowances.
Prepare investment notes and board/committee presentations with structured financial justification.
Monitor adherence to approved budgets and internal hurdle rates throughout project lifecycle.
3. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Management
Develop project-level CAPEX budgets and long-term capital plans.
Prepare periodic forecasts and cash flow projections for ongoing steel projects.
Track actual spend versus approved budgets and identify cost variances.
Support project control mechanisms including:
Ensure timely capitalization of completed assets in coordination with finance and project teams.
Generate periodic MIS reports and dashboards for management review.
4. Risk Oversight & Controls
Identify financial and execution risks related to:
Cost escalation
Schedule delays
Contractor performance
Supply chain disruptions
Regulatory or compliance requirements
Evaluate adequacy of contingencies and recommend corrective measures.
Participate in project risk review meetings and mitigation planning.
Support post-project performance reviews and IRR realization analysis.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with engineering, procurement, project management, and finance teams to maintain alignment on cost, scope, and schedule.
Provide structured financial inputs for management reviews and investment committees.
