Communication, collaboration, and integration are the three main components of the ever-growing modern software delivery technique known as "DevOps." Patrick Debois coined the term "development and operations" in 2009 to describe an extension of agile development environments that aimed to improve the entire software delivery process. Of course, there's some debate about what constitutes a legitimate DevOps definition.

The Next Generation of Agile is DevOps.

The role of Agile in DevOps is viewed differently by different people (or, how DevOps fits into Agile). Some consider DevOps and Agile to be two sides of the same coin, while others believe they are not. Others argue that Agile has made DevOps possible.

As a result, by allowing developers to make quick modifications before shipping to production based on the continuous input they received, this strategy increased efficiency and reduced risk. While agile approaches had always improved development, there was still a snag in the system when it came to deployment, which was still done using the waterfall method. While agile was employed in development to reduce risk and boost productivity, deployment followed a linear waterfall structure, slowing delivery and pushing testing to the end of the process - a strategy that incorrectly separated ownership. Because developers would have to start from scratch if a fault was identified near the end of a deployment, delivery cycles were severely slowed.

Debois coined the term "DevOps" after identifying a gap between development and deployment and realizing the benefits of incorporating agile in all phases of software delivery. The integration of development and operations, as well as the expanded best practices and concepts associated with agile, had the potential to significantly improve efficiency and reduce delivery risks.
