Yesterday, we witnessed the Super Blue Blood Moon in its full glory. This rare lunar eclipse caused everyone to sneak out to their balconies and outdoors and look up at the skies to spot the moon. Since, watching this eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of affair, I couldn't help and kept looking for it every now and then, and finally saw it at around 7 pm. when it was half red and half normal moon. It was spectacular.

Any kind of eclipse, however rare and majestic, is considered to be an omen in India. An eclipse, lunar or solar symbolizes darkness taking over at a time when we are supposed to have natural light. Because of various superstitions, we are not supposed to stray outside or eat any kind of food, whether indoor or outdoor.

The reasons I have been given are wide and varied. Some say the proximity of the moon to earth activates bacteria everywhere, especially the ones in cooked food, which turn them into poison. Another spiritual school of thought says, the earth mistakes a lunar eclipse as a full 28 day cycle as it goes from full moon --> new moon (eclipsed moon) --> full moon (moon after the eclipse). So, something that should happen over 28 days happens in a mere 3-4 hours window which seemingly fast forwards bacteria in food and something in the space-time continuum and turns cooked food into poison.

I followed these instructions throughout my life without questioning them. When I did question, I was told about the "poisonous food" effect and I just kept quite. Didn't really want to die just for not being able to control my hunger for 2 hours. But now the cynical and hungry me was not satisfied with the reasons. I stepped out (we are not supposed to step out either) and watched the eclipse. It was important for me to watch this beauty. After all, it took about 152 years to happen (It last occurred in 1866). I did eat a wee-bit of dark chocolate almond fudge during the eclipse, and I guess I am okay.

It's science and art, two things that I hold dear. Why would God create this beautiful phenomena and not want us to see it?

How about you? Do you have some beliefs associated with eclipses? Would you happen to have a more convincing reason as to why we shouldn't eat during eclipses?

Thanks for the read.

Soon, I am going to write about how to wield the power of energy around you to boost your inner power.

you are right. I had often heard that bodily pains from earlier bumps and accidents reach a peak during full moon. I have actually experienced it too. I never understood why. But with your explanation of the body being 70 percent water, it makes a lot of sense now. Thank you for your comment.

It is true, Preston \ud83d\udc1d Vander Ven, there are quite a few things, certain phenomenons, that are occuring in quick succession, around the world. These give me the feeling of something imminent, yet I try to keep the thoughts out of my mind. I pray that God gives us the wisdom to pursue the right path, so we can have a world which is not only habitable but also filled with empathy and love. I have always wished for this but I wish for this even more as a mother, as I want my child and his peers to have a safe and happy future ahead.

It indeed was, Pascal Derrien. The mere fact that we witnessed something that happens once in a century and a half, gives me goosebumps. :-)

That's the first time what I heard about it "poisoned food because the eclipse" very intriging ... But I have something to share too, the science affirms that the human body has 70% water, including blood ... And the same science affirm that the moon and the sun have an influence in the sea causing the waves and another phenomena. So if the body has water it is possible to cause some effects in the body and psyche too, according to some phylosofical bealifs the planets including the moon cause influence not just in the planet aswell in the human body aswell, yeah it's possible to affect the physical and the mental health too. I do not know ... lady, it's just a speculation ... Anyway that story about the bacteria is very interesting.
