The top four Cricket captains in India

The top four Cricket captains in India

Similar to coaching, captaincy differs greatly from team to team and from level of play to level of play. When you consider how the captain plays a part in other sports, cricket is very different from many of them. In soccer, the captain serves as the team's official leader on the field and as a role model off it, although the head coach sets the team's strategy and the key choices that are made during a match. In cricket, on the other hand, the captain mostly controls the team. The captain serves as the team's official leader off the field and makes all decisions on the field. A strong captain is essential to the team's performance and results. They'll try to set a good example, encourage and motivate the group to do well. Generally speaking, captains are chosen based on their expertise, performance level, and frequently the position that they have within the squad (often batsmen).

MS Dhoni :-

With a victory percentage of 53.61, Mahendra Singh Dhoni ranks second among all captains in terms of success. Dhoni, the only captain to win three ICC Trophies—the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013—is regarded as the best white-ball skipper in the world and the finest in India. India won five more international series under Dhoni's captaincy in addition to the three coveted ICC Trophies.

Dhoni has led India to 27 victories in 60 Test matches, making him the second-most successful captain in the country behind Kohli. Dhoni, the first Indian captain to defeat an Australian side in 2013, led India to the top place in the ICC Test rankings in 2009.

The best record for an Indian skipper in ODIs belongs to Dhoni, who guided India to 110 victories in 200 games. Dhoni guided India to 14 victories in the World Cup, the most of any Indian captain. The only two ICC World Cup games India lost under Dhoni were the ones against South Africa in 2011 and Australia in the semifinals in 2015.

In terms of his T20I statistics, Dhoni has the most victories of any Indian skipper with 41 in 72 games. Dhoni's outstanding leadership during the first T20 World Cup in 2007 resulted in the establishment of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and something of a revolution in Indian T20 cricket.

Rahul Dravid:-

Despite the short length of Rahul Dravid's leadership, it was not without its highlights. Dravid won 48.07% of the 104 games in which India was led by him. The squad was in disarray when Dravid was named captain; Greg Chappell and Ganguly had a falling out before the latter was subsequently relieved of his duties.

From 2003 to 2007, he captained India in 25 Test matches, winning eight and losing six. One of the high points of Dravid's Test leadership was winning the 2006 West Indies Test series. India hadn't triumphed in a Test series in the Caribbean prior to this visit. India put up a valiant effort to win the fourth Test after the first three Tests ended in draws. In the game that decided the series, Dravid scored 81 and 68 points and finished the series with the most runs scored (497). Another of Dravid's career high moments as captain was his success in the 2007 Test series in England.

As India's ODI captain, Dravid has the fifth-best record with 42 victories in 79 games. However, the World Cup elimination of India in the group stage in 2007 was the lowest point in his ODI leadership tenure. India, who finished second in the last competition, was predicted to perform considerably better than they did.

Kapil Dev :-

Only during the 1982–83 season did Kapil Dev make his professional debut, a remarkable statistic that says eloquently about the legend that was Kapil Dev and the man who brought India to its first-ever World Cup in 1983. In his maiden ODI series as captain, Kapil Dev and his squad managed to win a game at the era when the power of the West Indies controlled the world. The Indian squad who won the 1983 World Cup said that success gave them the confidence to take on the Windies in the 1983 championship game. With a record of 2 games, 608 runs (an average of 21), and 34 wickets, Kapil Dev hadn't yet established himself in the international sphere. In truth, India struggled during the 1983 competition. However, the genuine savior at that time turned out to be young Kapil Dev.

In a game against Zimbabwe that needed to be won, Kapil Dev added 126 runs for the 9th wicket, reaching a century and setting a record that will last for another 27 years! The person who led his squad at all times and made sure they were on the winning side put on an all-around performance. When he was reappointed as captain in March 1985, the pattern continued as Kapil Dev led the team from the front and even shared man of the match honors in the illustrious second tied Test against England. As a leader, Kapil Dev performed better than he did as a player. In Indian cricket at the time, leading India to a series victory over England was a remarkable accomplishment, made possible by Kapil Dev's performance in the 1986 series. Even though he and Gavaskar frequently disagreed, Kapil had a solid track record of success while in charge and led the Indian team to new heights.

Mohammad Azharuddin :-

Azharuddin was a skilled player who distinguished himself as India's captain not just with his bat but also with his deft leadership. He was a right-handed hitter with a flowing batting style that resembled English great David Gower in several aspects. In addition to being a fantastic hitter and fielder, Azharuddin also served as one of the finest captains. Azhar was a continual nightmare for the bowlers who faced him and had the ability to single-handedly change the course of a game. His batting prowess and artistic efforts were well-publicized. Azharuddin really has one of the finest success percentages with 103 victories to his name as a captain. His record of 14 victories in test matches while serving as captain also served as a barometer for Ganguly to surpass. Azhar was a real legend in his day, winning the Wisden Cricketer of the Year award in 1991 and the 1986 Arjuna Award.

Unfortunately, the discoveries of his involvement in match fixing came out just as his career was reaching its zenith and everything appeared to be going well for him. This resulted in the fall of a giant who had formerly enjoyed respect on and off the field.

Conclusion :-

In cricket, however, the team is mostly under the captain's direction. On the field, all decisions are made by the captain, who also acts as the team's formal leader off the field. The performance and outcomes of the team depend on a capable captain. They'll make an effort to lead by example, inspire, and inspire the group to succeed.
