What Creates the Feeling of Accountability? - Sense of Duty or Passion

My mind often goes on long walks. During these walks, it thinks of all things fine and not much related to what I am doing then, at least directly. But these help me introspect and understand the finer things in life and human behavior. 

I am often miffed by people not respecting other's time. But more than that it hurts me to see people doing something just for the sake of doing it. There is no ownership or accountability in their actions. It is like a robot who has been given instruction and needs to get the things off their checklist. At least, a robot works with precision (well mostly), but unfortunately the same cannot be said for human beings. I don't understand the apathy towards a certain task, especially if it's the job they have taken up. 

So, that's when I started thinking. Not everyone gets to work a job which is their passion, their calling. Mostly, they take up a job to pay their bills and have a good life. But then, I wonder, shouldn't they feel a sense of duty towards the job that is aiding them to take care of their home and hearth? Or is it that once they have the job, it becomes more of a take-for-granted kind of a situation where they just know that they have it and nothing's going to take it away from them?

I am fortunate to be working in a field which I am passionate about. But that has not been the case always. So I have been on both sides of the coin. But then I realized, it is not just a sense of duty. People might honor their duty but merely for the sake of it. However, when one is passionate about their work, their job; and if it is their calling, accountability just comes along. Because, in this case, the person and their work are the same. They are not two separate identities but one merged with the other. They want their work to be liked as much as they want to be liked by others. Each and every individual, at their heart, wants to be liked, adored, respected, and accepted. So is the case with people who make their jobs their lives. They treat their customer's pain points like their own and make sure their business/health/lives (depending on industry) flourishes by providing them their expertise. It could be an insurance consultant, a doctor, a teacher, an architect, a banker, a vlogger, it could be anyone. 

So, what I feel and believe is that passion is more of a driving force when it comes to fueling accountability rather than a sense of duty. I also feel that recruiters should always look for candidates who love what they do or the industry they are in. There could be other more qualified candidates, as well who can actually do the job extremely well. Consider them and also look for that passion and commitment for the role you are seeking to fill. It will be a great step for the company, the candidate and the stakeholders, in the long run.
