Purpose

  • We are looking for a strong emerging leader at the Programme Associate level for our team who has the ability to conduct stellar research on climate resilience (CR), build trusted relationships with government stakeholders and on ground local civil society organisations, and support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for building climate resilience. S/he should also be an effective mentor and role model for the junior members of the team with the ability to guide, train and provide direction to the team members across technical and people management aspects._

About the focus area


The Climate Resilience programme at CEEW envisions a future where institutions, infrastructure, economies, and people are insulated from the risks of a changing climate.

Backed by rigorous data analysis, integrated research and strategic communications and stakeholder engagement, our work is geared towards building on ground community resilience by:


  • Examining, identifying, assessing and predicting risks related to extreme climate events such as floods, droughts, and cyclones, variabilities in temperature and rainfall, and the compounding impacts of associated climate events at the national and subnational levels.
  • Building tools to assess community resilience and adaptation capabilities and help climateproof lives and livelihoods through datadriven research and strategic outreach.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Early leadership responsibilities

  • To be the point person in the CR team, to build strong trusted relationships with government stakeholders, community and civic society groups for socialisation and uptake of research findings as part of the Climate Risks Atlas (CRA) project
  • To be an effective youth mentor and guide for the junior members of the team
  • To be a "voice" of CEEW, actively speaking across engagements on building adaptation strategies to minimise the impacts of climate change and related issues in close collaboration with the team lead and the outreach team
  • Support team lead and other senior members to prepare for important meetings and sessions, prepare notes, and conduct followups, as required
  • To take "leadership by initiative" and be responsible for institutional responsibilities, as assigned from time to time

Project/Programme assistance

  • Conceptualize new research ideas that are aligned with programme objectives
  • Develop climatological models using big data analytical tools
  • Develop a series of publications including policy briefs, reports as well as publish in highquality peerreviewed national and international journals
  • To design and deliver relevant research pieces that can strengthen the adaptive capacity of Indian Union Territories, States, Districts and Cities
  • To be on top of emerging research on climate resilience in India, with a particular focus on the implementation of resilience building activities with the central and state governments
  • Endtoend management of our engagement in different states, including responsibility allocation to team members, internal review of content delivered by teammates and ensuring timely delivery of outputs
  • To engage with city and state nodal agencies to understand their research requirements
  • To develop relationships with Civil Society Groups, Resident Welfare Associations, and citybased youth networks to develop a neighbourhood level understanding of building on ground community level resilience across various states in India
  • To assist the team in working on multidisciplinary projects, proposal writing and project development
  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations and policy material

Selection Criteria

  • Strong academic credentials, preferably a Master's degree with a specialisation in fields relevant to Environmental Science/ Natural Resource Management/ Environmental Policy/ Climate Studies/ Urban Planning/ Pub
