A Ward-level Heatwave Guide for Bengaluru

Duration: 3 months, 3 days a week


Position Summary:

We are looking to hire 1 Researcher for a new project titled 'A Ward-level Heatwave Guide for Bengaluru' funded by the Bengaluru Sustainability Forum (BSF).

The project is led by Dr Manan Bhan at ATREE in collaboration with Ajay Raghavan at the Bangalore Creative Circus (BCC) and Abhayraj Naik at the Initiative for Climate Action (ICA).

The project aims to develop a heatwave guide for the Marappana Palya ward in North Bengaluru in a grounded and collaborative manner with ward-level representatives, interest groups and communities to systematically tackle future incidences of heat waves in the city.


The Researcher would be expected to undertake research on (1) downscaling the multi-dimensional impacts of heat stress and (2) identifying its differential impacts on interest groups at the ward level.

The position is ideally suited for someone who is:

  • Comfortable with gathering and analysing academic and grey literature and distilling them into relevant guidelines and practical actions.
  • Looking to build capacity on understanding local approaches towards climate action.
  • Comfortable with mixing deskbased background work with focussed conversations with a diverse set of actors.
  • Eager to explore new ways to present meaningful insights across contexts, while simultaneously thinking about expanding the work to other wards within the city.

Requirements:


  • A Bachelors and/or Masters degree in the social or natural sciences.
  • A demonstrable record of working on climate adaptation and/or development issues (preferably in urban contexts), through internships or job experiences.
  • Knowledge or perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of effective climate action in urban areas.
  • Ability to be absolutely methodical in approach and willingness to document each step of the process.
  • To be based in/around Bengaluru.

Compensation:
INR 30,000 per month for 3 months.
