Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)Please note that this is a Honorary Consul role and will be part-time, work from home position based in Bhutan.**
Main purpose of job:This is an exciting opportunity to represent the UK in Bhutan. The UK and Bhutan have strong links and this role provides the unique opportunity to help maintain and deepen the relationship between both countries. Honorary Consuls have a varied portfolio of responsibilities which includes promoting commerce and people-to-people ties between Bhutan and the UK. You will work with the British High Commission New Delhi and teams across the UK Government to help deliver these objectives.
As the Honorary Consul you will represent the UK at functions in Bhutan including government events, supporting wider prosperity and commercial objectives.
This job provides flexible working hours and should not take up more than 4 hours a week. The role is a fixed term contract of 1 year with possibility of extension.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?**The role requires working closely with the British High Commission in New Delhi and Deputy British High Commission in Kolkata to assist with the following:
- Government of Bhutan liaison. Providing updates as appropriate.
- Represent the UK at official functions in Bhutan.
- Provide support to inward visitors.
- Help promote and deliver the Chevening Scholarship programme in Bhutan. Building relations with the growing Chevening Scholarship network.
- Occasional Consular assistance, directing to the Consular Team based in the Deputy British High Commission in Kolkata.
- Advise and find further opportunities to enhance engagement between the UK and Bhutan.

This job has flexible working hours and the successful applicant should be able to commit to around four hours per week.
Essential qualifications, skills and experienceEssential on arrival:
Understanding of both the UK and Bhutan. Good networking and leadership skills.
- Applicant must be a Bhutanese national and have full working rights to work in Bhutan.
- The applicant will be expected to work from home.
- This applicant may be asked to work some flexible hours to attend events and support inward visits.
