Description

Animal Health and Care:


  • Perform routine health assessments of laboratory animals and report any abnormalities to the veterinary team.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
  • Monitor and provide care for postsurgical and sick animals.

Procedural Support:


  • Assist in the preparation and execution of research procedures involving laboratory animals.
  • Collaborate with researchers to ensure proper handling and treatment of animals during experiments.
  • Monitor and record data related to experimental procedures.

Veterinary Assistance:


  • Support veterinarians in conducting physical examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of veterinary care plans for laboratory animals.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate medical records for all animals under care.

Environmental Management:


  • Ensure that animal housing facilities meet regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Monitor and control environmental factors, including temperature, humidity, and cleanliness.
  • Implement and oversee biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of diseases.

Training and Guidance:


  • Provide training and guidance to researchers and laboratory staff on proper animal handling and care procedures.
  • Promote a culture of ethical treatment and responsible use of laboratory animals.

Compliance and Documentation:


  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding the care and use of laboratory animals.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal inventory, procedures, and health status.
  • Participate in inspections and audits to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Requirements:


  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology, Laboratory Animal Science, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Experience working in a laboratory animal facility or veterinary setting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory animal welfare regulations and standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a teamoriented environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to animal welfare
