Job Overview:


The Civil/Structural Designer provides solutions to problems in the Civil/Structural Design discipline without supervisory approval and will evaluate and select solutions from established operating procedures and/or scientific procedures.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


  • Utilize design system to produce basic civil/structural design deliverables
  • Generates bulk material takeoffs for civil/structural materials
  • Maintains and promotes a focus on McDermott products whether engineering, fabrication, or construction
  • Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines
  • Ensures effective management of change
  • Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity, and budget control
  • Create Smart3D models for piling, foundations, reinforced concrete piers and pedestals, steel modules, stickbuilt structures, pipe racks
  • Ensure designs align with equipment and vendor drawings
  • Ensure designs align with the engineering information provided
  • Build civil and structural 2D design drawings as needed to support bid or construction activities
  • Build reports for material takeoff from 3D model data
  • Review conformance of work with project specifications, standards, and contract documents
  • Review vendor submittals and equipment reference drawings
  • Enforce industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures
  • Attend project and group meetings
  • Collaborate with Design teams both domestically and abroad
  • Piping, Stress Analysis, Mechanical & Machinery, and Electrical & Instrumentation, etc

Essential Qualifications and Education:


  • Technical school education with Associate Degree in CAD/Design/Drafting
  • Minimum 0 5 years of CAD experience in modeling & creating design drawings using software tools such as AutoCAD, S3D, Frameworks, MicroStation, SolidWorks, or other 3D software
  • Experience with Smart3D and Smart-Sketch is a plus
  • Willingness to learn new CAD software tools, such as Smart3D and Smart-Sketch
  • Create and populate 2D drawings from 3D models with guidance from peers
  • Attentiveness to detail and possess the ability to gradually work independently
  • Proven understanding of Microsoft Office software, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in current engineering design and drafting and software packages
  • Typically has the following years of experience in design modeling, drafting, and design:
