The Role:


The role has to provide subsurface domain expertise and understanding of the upstream value chain (exploration, development, production) workflows, data management and IT processes.

It is a genuine hybrid of upstream and IT generalist position, providing growth opportunities and extensive stakeholder and interface management.


Accountabilities:


  • Cocreate OSDU migration plans; drive their execution;
  • Contribute/Advise to the subsurface apps portfolio strategy (Geology, Petrophysics, Geomechanics, Reservoir Engineering);
  • Proactively gather business requirements and translate them into wellwritten proposals with clear acceptance criteria to enable effective delivery through regular refinement and prioritization;
  • Resolve any unclarities with the program manager and business stakeholders;
  • Assess solutions. Invite stakeholders into the review session to ask for feedback and steer. Ensure the product delivered is of sufficient quality to deploy;
  • Ensure products are documented from IT (Information Technology) and user perspectives;
  • Actively colead and contribute to programs aiming at user behaviour changes, thus, contributing to cost rationalization programs globally;
  • Work closely with the workflow consultants to ensure a seamless deployment of the product into the business;
  • Collaborate with TAP (Technical Advisory Panel) members, PTEs/SMEs (Subject Matter Expert), R&D (Research & Development) teams, IT support bodies, Portfolio Management and business users on strategy and innovation, contributing ideas;
  • Build and maintain effective relations with 3rd party providers of the software platforms;
  • Provide training and consultancy to business users;
  • Work in close collaboration with PetroSigns teams to find synergies;
  • Onboard emerging digital products in the subsurface apps portfolio, including forecasting the consequences on workflows and license management;
  • Build solutions that are useful to the endusers, integrated across subsurface workflows, and scalable within the existing software landscape (OSDU, workhorse apps: PetroSigns, Techlog, Petrel, Dynamo, etc.);
  • Provide adequate maintenance and support organization for the developed products, working closely with 1st line support and 3rd line support (dev teams) while acting as 2nd line support;
  • Ensure that the subsurface workflows wrt OSDU/Cloud are adequately documented and communicated to portfolio managers, global process owner representatives and further stakeholders;
  • Understand and promote clear business cases for the use of cloud/OSDU technologies and increase, through appropriate engagement, the appetite for selected technologies to be developed or enhanced and, if proven valuable to Shell, to be prototyped, piloted and deployed;
  • Develop and maintain effective personal networks with teams of OSDU and businesses;
  • Keep abreast of new developments/technologies;
  • Identify and integrate opportunities to improve workflows and tools using digitalization concepts.

Dimensions:

The Subsurface Applications Advisor provides subsurface expertise and coordinates between several interfaces involved in the OSDU migration.

In addition, s/he actively contributes to the proof of concepts and various projects aiming at portfolio rationalization involving OSDU migration.

S/he will work closely with SMT, IDT-SOM and Competence Center, OSDU, Technical Data Management and Workflow, Portfolio Management, discipline leadership, SOVs, JV/NOVs.

S/he will report to the Development Manager SLAM, who is responsible for the higher-level vision and strategy of the products/migration journey.


Skills and Requirements:

The Subsurface Applications Advisor has a hybrid subsurface-engineer, and IT profile with the following skills and experience:

  • A thorough understanding of Shell subsurface processes, including the available tools and technical data management standards and strategies
  • Understand the OSDU concept from domain and IT technical perspective
  • Handson experience with subsurface data acquisition, interpretation software portfolio and workflows across the upstream value chain.
  • Stakeholder management, influencing skills and ability to work across multiple business areas.
  • Project management, requirements analysis and prioritization of enhancements internally and with external parties.
  • Business analysis skills to understand what users and stakeholders need, assess business value and create winwin situations.
  • Ability to break highlevel requirements up into smaller subrequirements and turn these into testable requirements using acceptance criteria and tests.
  • Ability to recognize and incorporate nonfunctional requirements such as performance and scalability.
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum lifecycle process and role definitions.
  • Ability to read and understand highlevel architecture documents.
  • Preferably some experience or exposure to IT.
