The Role Responsibilities

Job Role


As a bank operating in emerging economies, Country Risk is an integral component of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework ("ERMF").

Country Risk analysis is important for supporting revenue generation; mitigating losses and is a key consideration in keeping within risk appetite.


The role holder will be a part of a new Risk Governance hub being created in Bangalore India, focussing on support for Country Risk.


The role will the Country Risk team with key activities which make up the process universe, including: performing sovereign rating reviews as part of the annual schedule as well as out-of-cycle reviews (as required); limit setting and management; economic analysis; governance and reporting.


Business

Country Risk Analysis

  • Provide economic and political risk analysis to support the Group's decisionmaking process for setting sovereign risk grades as part of Regional Country Risk reviews and ad hoc reviews.
  • Regular publication of research reports to senior internal stakeholders, outlining Country Risk events and linking the external environment to the Group's exposure, including proposed management actions.
  • Engagement with the firstline of defence (including Country CEOs) to articulate the Business strategy and to set appetite for Country Risk.
  • Preparation of materials and presentation to regional risk committees on key Country Risks.
  • Regular engagement with Country Chief Risk Officers and Chief Executive Officers to ensure Country Risks are well managed. As well as engagements with Regional Chief Risk Officers.
  • Support the team by providing forward guidance on likely changes to the sovereign ratings or outlook.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the internal sovereign rating model.
  • Participate in weekly macroeconomic outlook discussion and provide forward looking views.
  • Support the team in monitoring the reporting of Country Risk exposures and related documentation, including monitoring, management and remediation of limit breaches.
  • Support in maintaining a quantitative Early Warning System for the Group's key markets.

  • Execution of control testing for Country Risk processes and submission of evidence to Group Operational Risk.

Governance

Country Risk Information Systems

  • Develop competency in investigating exposure related queries, using the Bank's reporting system and engaging with Business and Risk Reporting team to identify issues and provide resolution.
  • Ensure that outcomes delivered, including necessary controls are fit for purpose and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the Bank's risk governance disciplines are adhered with.

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Other Responsibilities

  • Strong experience of years in economic / political risk analysis and / or Risk Management.
  • Good communicator, specifically in putting forward rating proposals and justifying views with strong analysis.
  • Ability to track and report progress updates of multiple areas against milestones and highlight key issues.
  • Experience working with a sovereign rating model and preparing rating proposals would be advantageous.
  • Collaborative; working as part of a broader team to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the Group's core values.
  • Ownership mindset, able to think creatively and be open to new ideas.
  • Ability to explain complex matters in simple and intuitive terms.
  • Strong experience in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point.
