AVP - COE -Findings Validation, DCO/Risk team

Role Description


The COE (Center of Excellence) validation team is responsible for supporting Operations with first line operational risk management across IB (Investment Banking) and CRU Operations.

The role will require to evaluate whether Audit Findings Or SII (Self Identified Issues) have been thoroughly mitigated, and confirm that evidence of the risk mitigation meets a high standard.


This is a high visibility role requiring ability to work independently, learn complex concepts quickly, build strong relationships, working collaboratively with business teams globally.

Able to challenge and be challenged whilst maintaining the highest levels of professionalism. Drive quality and consistency across the findings validation process by focusing on the following

  • Track life cycle events (Closure, Target date extension, Risk Rating Reclassification) of the Audit findings / SII (Self Identified Issues) for timely action by the finding owners
  • Work with Operations to review, validate, test (design and operating effectiveness of controls) and challenge the remediation implemented to ensure the risk highlighted in the finding is mitigated
  • Obtain concurrence from the RTC (Risk Type Controller
  • Second Line) on High severity/Significant rated findings wherever required by the procedure
  • Review the findings template for its accuracy and completeness of evidence before seeking DCO (Divisional Control Officer) approval on life cycle events
  • Flag challenges to the DCO (Divisional Control Officer) and senior management (Findings likely to go overdue, RAG downgrade, CEAG
  • Control Environment Assessment Grid Impact)
  • Generate accurate management Information reporting for Weekly / Monthly findings validation governance packs
  • Perform validation activities leveraging findings management framework and related policy/procedures
This role will lead multifaceted and engagement with senior stakeholders across multiple teams globally.

Your Key Responsibilities:


  • Test design and operating effectiveness of controls to ensure risk is mitigated and challenge the remediation.
  • Ensure that the quality of work stands up against key stakeholders' scrutiny and challenge, e.g. an independent person can reperform test steps and arrive at the same conclusion / can understand issue writeup covering root cause of control gap, residual risks and its impact
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to challenge and agree a sound and practical remediation plan
  • Engage with key stakeholders to assist in the development of a riskbased assessment Book of Work by referencing various trigger events e.g. key risk indicators outside risk appetite, major incidents or major change event
  • Support the collation of key management information and the conduct of risk governance meetings
  • Deliver functional training sessions to develop / enhance skillset for assessments and assurance activities

Your skills and experience:


  • 810 years' work Experience of working in financial services industry preferably in MNC Bank with strong functional and product knowledge of investment banking, payments, SCAF, MiFID II, asset and wealth management products as well as strong awareness of risk management principles
  • Experience in performing risk assessments and ability to identify material risks that impact business. Experience in audit of banks / big 4 is an added advantage
  • Inquisitive and probing approach to problem solving, strong analytical skills, high attention to detail, solid organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Effective problem solving, decision making capability and leadership qualities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience of reporting to senior management
  • Ability to maintain objectivity and independence in raising areas of operational risk exposure as well as in having an effective working relationship with key stakeholders
  • Experience in handling projects independently and working to deadlines and budget i.e., strong project management skills
  • Selfstarter, proactive and excellent team player with ability to work well under pressure in a fastpaced environment and always with professionalism. Ability to be open minded, share information, transfer knowledge and expertise to team members
  • Strong delivery focus and experience in leading projects end to end
